@ynuorg botany section visit to Seckar Wood, Wakefield provided plenty of bryophyte interest with some nice step pools of Sphagnum flexuosum and S squarrosum, and plenty of Equisetum sylvaticum amongst a more heathy area of Sphagnum. Plus a few bluebells.

Another great @ynuorg bryophyte section trip to Frostrow Fells nr Sedburgh. Plenty of Sarmentypnum sarmentosum, some Bazzania trilobata unexpectedly in grassland and various Sphagna just possibly with Sphagnum platyphyllum but awaiting microscopic examination @BBSbryology

Another great day on the @BBSbryology spring meeting. Today up at Wolf Crags, Matterdale, with a new locality for Herbertus hutchinsiae and a nice cushion of Isothecium interludens amongst many nice species.

@4peatssake2 @mattrogers70 The second one with pointy leaves is more typical Cololejeunea calcarea. The first one with rounded leaves is perhaps a Lejeunea species?

Great bryophyte trip out to Reeve Edge on the very edge of Derbyshire in the Peak District.Highlights include Solenostoma sphaerocarpum, Rhynchostegium alopecuroides and large patches of Oligotrichum hircynicum by (and in) the river @BBSbryology

Interesting to explore the dried out peaty ponds and ditches at Skipwith Common NNR this week. Most exciting find was a large expanse of Fossombronia foveolata (known from elsewhere on the site), a nationally scarce liverwort. @BBSbryology

Another great @ynuorg bryophyte meeting at Ogden Clough nr Halifax.Moerckia and Daltonia the highlights,both v rare in Yorks.Lots of nice species by reservoir too with lots of Archidium. @BBSbryology

@fungi_flowers @MilesKing10 @Plankbridge Red hemp nettle does at least have some non-arable refuges, coastal shingle to inland limestone screes (such as Lathkill Dale). @Love_plants have done some phylogeog studies, so results will be interesting to compare arable and non-arable popns.

Compostela, in Galicia, swelters under an unprecedented heatwave. The stone pavement of the historic centre is boiling hot, but not everywhere. Colonizing "lumpen" plant species are making cities more hospitable. Let's help them as the allies they are.

Great to be out recording bryophytes in Lincolnshire around East Barkwith. Nice variety of wet woodland, old brick pits and plenty of Riccia sorocarpa on old railway. @BBSbryology
