I got into cycling in 2020 and I'll be sharing my rides here. Hopefully, I'll inspire someone to start on their journey.
These are my stats so far in regard to rides. #cycling#mtblife
Whenever you are buying a car, always make sure 5% of your total budget is set aside to upgrade your audio to a premium car radio and speakers.
You will be shocked at the difference it makes!
@jnl_1905@weskambale@Samwyri You see a QR and ask for a link. Someone else sees a link and wishes they could just scan. You provide both, so you click the link, and they scan the QR. Nobody is forced to do anything they don't want to.
That's the whole point of inclusion, sir!
@weskambale@jnl_1905@Samwyri Who saw a horse and said, "damn, I need a car"? Nobody. Because you can't complain about what you don't know exists yet.
The argument isn't that links don't work. It's that we can strive to do differently. QRs extend the link's reach. That's how innovation works.
@Samwyri@jnl_1905@weskambale I agree with you completely. If you look at what I've been saying all morning, it is that let's do both QR and links. Not just QR or not just links. Let's do both. Give people the ability to choose what works for them.
Each option has downsides, so we should also educate!
@weskambale@jnl_1905@Samwyri And your decision not to scan should be respected 100%. There's also another person who would prefer to just scan, and if we provide both options, everyone can do what they want. @jnl_1905 that's what inclusion is! Not forcing only one thing down people's throats!
@weskambale@jnl_1905@Samwyri There were concerns about security, which have been addressed. There were concerns about access to the information in the QR & that too has been addressed.
Why are you lot for doing just links and not doing both the QR and the link? That's what I am trying to understand!?
@weskambale@jnl_1905@Samwyri@weskambale let's go back to the primary argument I am trying to make here, which you seemed to be making in this tweet https://t.co/dWQM2Gfd4Z
You said, "always include a clickable link in the body or caption instead", and that's what I am saying! Use both, not one or the other!
i'll never understand how we jumped to qr codes on digital-first flyers and posters
uganda is a mobile-first market, and most people consume content on a single device
so how exactly are people supposed to scan a qr code on the same phone they're usin' to view the flyer?
qr codes should be treated as secondary convenience, not the primary call-to-action
always include a clickable link in the body or caption instead
qr codes make more sense on printed posters, roll-up banners, backdrops, business cards, tv presentations, etc
where i can actually use my device to scan the code
@jnl_1905 And would they have built the AED without the expert machines first? Expertise created the foundation. The masses benefited because experts pushed boundaries.
To say let's keep what works for masses and not build for experts is to stifle innovation!
@jnl_1905 But MTN MoMo didn't retire the USSD when they built the app. They kept both, and that's my entire point. Not app or USSD. App and USSD. Not QR or link. QR and link. They didn't retire the expert machines when they built the AED for bystanders. They kept both.
@jnl_1905@jnl_1905 how can you claim to advocate for "inclusion > new technologies" while also saying to leave out people who would prefer QR?
What do we lose if we do both links and QR?
@jnl_1905@Samwyri@weskambale@jnl_1905 Being an expert means I advocate for everyone. Both QR and a link means no one is excluded. Sticking to one just because it works is how progress stalls. We can push boundaries without leaving anyone behind. Many years later, maybe everyone will jump onto the QR train!
@dabirungi 1. Let's agree there's a loop.
2. Let's agree that it's not too difficult to navigate!
3. Let's also agree that a QR code alone isn't enough.
4. The major point I am making is, let's use both. Do the QR and then the link. It shouldn't be one or the other.
