Reminder for UK folks you can change your name for free legally whenever you want. You just need a Deed Poll which you can do yourself with two witnesses just following standardised language from the government website. You don't need to pay any organisation or person for it.

I think everyone should have the right to choose their own name. You should be allowed one free legal name change in your life. Doesn’t matter if you’re cis or trans; some of our parents chose absolutely garbage names for us and we deserve to be able to self-identify.

There no shame in saying "ill sit this one out", "not today", "i need to stop" "i need to rest" or even "i just don't want to". We have to allow people we hold in esteem these options and we have to allow it of ourselves. We have to allow it in others.

Just watched a documentary about people going after a massive athletic challenge and when things went wrong and the athlete said "i don't want to keep going" ... that was ok. That was the right choice. That was accepted. They were disappointed sure. But there was no shame.

We just don't see that enough. Especially not from people and things which are supposed to be inspiring. We need to see these stories. They're valuable. They can literally save lives if they stop people pushing too far because they "have to" to avoid judgment and shame.
