@SirKenRobinson What a loss to both his family and the world of education. An inspiration to all who listened and the driver of a movement that improves learning for all. A sad day but Sit Ken’s message goes on.
Does market fundamentalism have a place in schooling? I believe that the social contract (I pay taxes, in return the government provides safety, health, and education) should separate the public good and the market. GDP is not the only goal!
@NoLoneRangerz @BehaviorFlip @teachergoals We are almost on the same page but my hunch is that without quality classroom mgt to get the social side right, you aren’t going to get engagement or content transfer. Agree, no more resources, just good mgt until you run out of options and need help. Good discussion.
@NoLoneRangerz @BehaviorFlip @teachergoals Big assumption that I believe parents have no responsibility. Agree with parents first but I see teaching as hearts and minds. Content needs socialisation. From my context-middle school-we spend more time with learners than the parents so why would we abdicate the social aspect?
@NoLoneRangerz @BehaviorFlip @teachergoals Some teachers refer to leadership so that they can get on with ‘teaching’ but forget that they are also responsible for teaching respect, conflict resolution, etc. Schools should have a scaffold for those who don’t respond and for top-end infringement but SLT is last resort.
@pasi_sahlberg is right on the money. Children will play in any space offered, learning and connecting as they go, but it is time that is the variable in most schools. Give the children time and they will blossom. @GonskiInstitute
"Rather than counting square metres, schools should be allowed to offer at least one hour free playtime every day in every school." https://t.co/Qt5afdDr3I via @smh@JordsBaker @GonskiInstitute @PiccoliMp
Peter Hutton challenged us to put students front and centre. Many schools say they do but Peter makes me question just how much students are respected and involved in their 11-13 years of school. It is a long time to be without any power. @EdRev@ACSAcurriculum#studentagency
Had my thinking challenged even more by Pasi Sahlberg and Adrian Piccoli at the ACSA conference. Dealing with increasing inequity, declining wellbeing, and too little time to play and think for learners? Nothing more important for systems. @PasiSahlberg @EdRev@AdrianPiccoli
#ElemMathChat The most successful teachers we have studied are those that teach to big ideas instead of methods. Work out the big ideas in your grade, and for each one find rich, deep activities. The methods come out as you teach to big ideas, that give enduring understanding.
