@Abunajohn Fr. John I'm an American convert.
I'm trying to understand the politics here as I do find the politics is hurting converts. The divisions in the West aren't helping us.
What do you think needs to actually change?
@Abunajohn@4everCatechumen Why do you say this? I find we have many converts but I think the US desperately needs Orthodoxy as a convert myself.
Hubbly I'm asking why you think this?
@Abunajohn@VinnieIsBored As an American what is the American Church doing wrong? I feel westernism is in every branch of the American Church and the seperation of dioceses is hurting us but was is your opinion?
Just like the rule of the Rome prior to it's Christianization? Just as Orthodox Christians have lived under Islamic rule? How about those who've had their Churches decimated by American bombs launched from Israel. We've been persecuted throughout history.
What does this have to do with the topic? As I stated you just wanted to debate Eastern Orthodoxy. It didn't matter whether we hold women accountable or not you just don't like us.
@Brandon81Hansen@Anthonethan@Adriana19Flower I did not say she had no accountability.
You are putting words in my mouth.
This is also not what the Church teaches either.
The man has headship. This is a higher role but is equal in value. The woman is the neck and supports the head.
Just as monasticism is a higher role.
@Brandon81Hansen@Anthonethan@Adriana19Flower Which is direct opposition to the Bible.
The fact is you are right America was founded on Rebellion which is strictly anti-Biblical.
Once again you seem to be apposed to the Orthodox Church more than any other issue.
@Brandon81Hansen@Anthonethan@Adriana19Flower Which I contested as you acknowledged.
You started debating with me over the Church having authority to deny the Eucharist or excommunicate people. Which is a form of the church exorcising accountability.
1st I did speak out before you and I ever spoke. Neither him nor I speak for the Church. We are laity and all Church positions should be checked with clergy.
Regarding your opinion on Orthodoxy what gives you the right to determine where it can be practiced? I'm an American and was baptized in the American Orthodox Church.
@Brandon81Hansen@Adriana19Flower@Anthonethan As I stated I contested him that this is what our Church teaches.
As I stated you even pointed out in the Bible women can and did convert men in the early century.
@Brandon81Hansen@Adriana19Flower@Anthonethan No matter what I say your heart is hardened.
All of these matters are pastoral. The Church abhors divorce as I've stated many times. However, there are extreme examples where it's necessary.
You just want to be angry.
@Brandon81Hansen@Anthonethan@Adriana19Flower I never stated she doesn't have to honor her husband. Two things can be true at the same time she can have imperfect obedience and him imperfect leadership.
What is the issue do you just want a female slave?
@Brandon81Hansen@Adriana19Flower@Anthonethan Also, hardness of hearts. Divorce is sin and often due to hardness of hearts the marriage is already dead when it's granted. So that was the other allowance but for this reason often a penance is required after divorce to repent.
@Brandon81Hansen@Anthonethan@Adriana19Flower Yet we are all sinners and often the husband isn't following the Church as Christ would. Therefore he's not leading his wife as Christ would.
Both are to be held to account. We are all sick and need medicine.
