#ESAus20 Join me and these two rascals at 14:23 today to watch some unexpected social #behaviour between female northern #quolls. Then let's have a chat at my poster session tonight! @EcolSocAus
New #AustralEcology paper on the status of native mammals on Groote Eylandt. The relative health of populations is likely due to feral cat low density, benign fire regime, and absence of large introduced herbivores and cane toads. @EcolSocAus@wileyecology https://t.co/upCbo3nczD
So excited! Our new individual-based model investigating how habitat features and performance interact to affect terrestrial predator-prey pursuits is out in @AnimalEcology!! @TedPavlic

60% of desert mammals are gone from the Aussie arid zone. Half are completely extinct. The other half are at serious risk of extinction.
On #ThreatenedSpeciesDay we remember the wildlife we’ve lost forever, while at the same time doubling down on conserving those that remain.

Feisty Northern Quolls are persisting at our Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary!
“She decided to stay and fight (and play tug of war)... In my 9 years of trapping 100s of quolls, this is the first time that this has happened.”

In 1879 Alexander Forrest saw these great Kimberley ranges and, in awe, named them after Belgian King Leopold.
Today we officially renamed them the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges - the names they have held well before that King was born.
⚡️Rare finds in the first joint AWC-Wilinggin survey!⚡️
Camera traps in remote NW Kimberley have detected the endangered Black-footed Tree-rat, elusive Kimberley Brush-tailed Phascogale, and several threatened species.

Anyone wanting to help wildlife after bushfires - here's a simple cheap design for a 'water fountain'. Can be made from hardware store stuff. They limit evaporation, lasting 2 weeks in 40+ degrees here and making a real difference for our drought affected animals. #AustraliaFires
Factcheck: there is no green conspiracy to stop bushfire hazard reduction. Smart action to fund adequate fire and #climatechange research + infrastructure AND PAY FIREFIGHTERS is what’s needed https://t.co/8IQu1bJcHg
Sounds of the night can be scary for #easternquoll pups who are just getting their confidence - so it's important they know where it is safe to run to! What do you do when you get scared? 😱 @MulligansFlat@scienceANU@QuollOz#QuollPatrol#WildOz https://t.co/ow2JbkuPGR
Bilbies were restored to two NSW national parks in 2018/19, where they had been missing for more than a century.
To monitor the health of these new populations AWC ecologists carry out regular surveys - which recently turned up these two beauties ❤.

.@april_reside more than 50% of proposals to clear black throated finch habitat got the go ahead from fed govt with no environmental conditions. Only 3 rejected. "Green tape" preventing work is a media illusion #ESAus19
So far we've moved 6 mammal and 2 bird sp, and the final species water rat 🌊🐀 (rakali) is next!
If you're interested in a PhD involving tricky questions combining genetics of translocations, and following rakali around on islands, get in touch!
