When Sir Thomas Moore wrote the unfittingly named 'Utopia' in 1516, Moore envisioned renaissance states in which no man may travel or trade without the written permission of his prince – the first proposal of the modern passport, for domestic use also.
That is essentially what the EU, UK and Anglosphere is proposing, 500 years later.

Good news for Ryzen 9000 users. AMD has confirmed that memory encryption support is returning via a BIOS update expected in July after huge community backlash.
The feature, called Transparent Secure Memory Encryption (TSME), protects data stored in RAM from physical attacks. It works in the background and needs no extra software.
AMD had removed the feature in newer firmware, which led to concerns from users and security enthusiasts. After listening to “community feedback” the company decided to bring it back.

Canada is about to pass Bill C-22 the Lawful Access Act.
Here's what it actually does:
— The government can order telecoms to install surveillance devices on their own infrastructure
— The government can order companies to organize your data for government access
— lower legal threshold for police to access your data
— government no longer required to review surveillance orders before extending them
— Companies cannot tell you if they received a government order about you
The debate was cut off by the government before it finished. The amendments MPs voted on were kept secret from the public.
Apple already pulled its Advanced Data Protection feature from UK users after a similar law there. Experts say Canada is creating the same conditions.
The EFF called it a repackaged surveillance nightmare.
The Privacy Commissioner recommended changes.
The bill is passing anyway.
"Protect the children."
"Stop the criminals."
Same infrastructure either way.
Several former Destiny 2 developers have criticized Bungie’s leadership and workplace culture.

CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski says the studio still has work to do to fully regain players’ trust after Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch.
“I’m not 100% convinced we went through the full redemption arc,” he admitted that some fans are still put off by the game’s broken debut despite years of updates and the success of Phantom Liberty.
He said the team hopes The Witcher 4 can help change that. “I hope with The Witcher 4 we’ll be able to convince those people and prove through our actions that we’ve changed.”
Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020 with major problems, especially on last-gen consoles which were completely broken, and a lot of people refunded it.
Since then, CD Projekt Red has spent years improving the game.
Protecting children online matters. But Bill C-34 goes far beyond that goal by creating age-verification systems, expanding regulation of AI and social media, and establishing a new Digital Safety Commission with broad powers over Canada’s digital public square.
