been sleeping bc i wasn't feeling good and my sister just came and woke me up to tell me not to take teddy outside because a bear just ran down the road....
@takatsukisen REAL every time i see people conflate smth either set in or based on any time after the year 1000 with antiquity i die a little on the inside 💀💀
@arsquare3 gotta set up the framework for when the series blows up ofc... also i don't use reddit but i just looked and it's set to request to post, so that may be why others aren't posting much?
@takatsukisen oh yeah 100%, my first thought when seeing this is wondering if they're just going to try and use seeing people generally filming vids or taking photos in combination with racial profiling as an excuse to detain more people
@takatsukisen mess from top to bottom bc clearly they want to stop people from "working" without a visa but if the goal is making money off content they can't use a journalist visa???? you have to have press affiliations for one but also it can only be used for like. informational content 😭
incorporating audience feedback to portray how characters/circumstances may change in present-day tog. and if he wants a clean break from the blog posts, it's also just a good outlet to curb expectations and update & canonize world lore that might not have shown up in tog itself
the amount of major lore/character drops happening in tog um is a choice that i'm personally not the biggest fan of tbh, but rather than a spinoff problem this feels like a continuation of s3 problems. tog is famine or feast irt this, and a lot of s3 felt like being force fed imo
i do think there are justifications for it in um tho. people tend to have negative gut reactions if things differ from expectations, regardless of being good/bad/neutral. introducing things here lessens backlash if they're in tog. the past setting also allows for flexibility irt
@tomalou46 god yeah on one hand, siu is someone i admire a lot bc i have similar health issues. but. all of his chapter blog posts talking about lack of days off/breaks and working through pain and delaying things like hand surgery bc of tog felt absolutely crushing to even read about
i have plenty of criticisms on tog & um that i could talk about at length as well lol but some recent commentary feels inexplicably spiteful toward siu? siu was in his early 20s when tog started. he's almost 40 now. people change, and your aims as a writer inevitably change too
@beauty_in_a_bog yeah nuance is. def something that feels consistently lacking in tog fandom, asdfjdhks, the consensus often seems to be that the series can do no wrong or absolute vitriol 😭
@tomalou46 yeah 100%, and it's very clear he didn't anticipate this runtime either. 3 years in he was saying he never expected to work on it for so long, and in earlier chapter blogs he brought up cancellation fears and how he'd take better care of his health in his next series 💀
if i could destroy every instance of me saying anything in detail and all the copies of that anthology i would 💀 like Yeah i said all that shit but pretend i didn't. so imagining being in a situation like this and beholden to ideas i shared forever ago is fucking nightmarish ngl
nobody shares story details thinking they'll change. but it happens! and this is why don't speak about *my* planned comic story now. thinking back to what i told people 10 years ago makes me cringe. knowing people own copies of a short story ver i wrote in uni is stressful af 😭
