Some PR advice for Russian liberals: (a thread)
1. Stop being so self-absorbed. Don’t talk about a “Marshall Plan” for Russia when those who would pay for it read daily accounts of new atrocities in Ukraine
2. Don’t call Westerners Nazis when they do want Russians to travel 1/n
In case of mobilisation, there will be:
1) tons of new, unmotivated recruits
2) aware they'll be sent to Ukraine, where they likely die or get maimed
3) stuck in Moscow, in proximity to the seat of power
That's revolutionary situation
@tea_raha @robertfalzon @kajakallas Yes. My point is that a strong reaction affecting each Russian can be justified in terms of war, rather than human rights. And visa ban is more like an instrument of war, not a mere protection.
@tea_raha @robertfalzon @kajakallas Russia committed crimes against humanity long before the war, many of them left unnoticed. The reason seems to be more wordly. Russia no longer has the capability to give an adequate response to more radical sanctions. It’s a good thing actually
@tea_raha @robertfalzon @kajakallas The way Russia wages the war has shown that it hardly can defend its national interests anywhere. And I think it’s the main reason why such collective measures now can be implemented.
@kajakallas However, while this can be justified with respect to tourists, various agents of influence, vatniks, or whatever, banning or deporting political refugees and other activists who can help fight Putin's regime from abroad would be at least very stupid.
@kajakallas I'm not happy about that as a Russian citizen but it must happen sooner or later. Collective responsibility is not a joke. The war moves on to the next stage.
The visa issue may be complicated.
1. I think security concerns of Finland and even more so, Baltics, are legitimate. Let's be honest, Russia never really recognised independence of the latter. Furthermore, Baltic nations are very much dehumanised in the Russian public discourse
