Peter Scholze (born December 11, 1987, in Dresden, Germany) is a German mathematician. A professor at the University of Bonn since 2012 (appointed at age 24), he has been co-director of the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics since 2018.
In his thesis, Scholze introduced perfectoid spaces. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 2018 "for transforming arithmetic algebraic geometry over p-adic fields through his introduction of perfectoid spaces, with application to Galois representations, and for the development of new cohomology theories."
He has received numerous other awards, including the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize (2013), Clay Research Award (2014), and Leibniz Prize (2016).
