Learning that John Carpenter absolutely loathes Eli Roth has been so vindicating. Like why yes, he IS a hypocritical hack who thinks he’s smarter than he is, and who expresses that self perceived intelligence through basic and close minded scripts that carry themselves on gore!
the more i think about it, the more i love lee cronin’s the mummy for being a spiritual evil dead movie rooted in middle eastern culture… it’s so gooey, the native-speaking cast adds so much to it, and there’s a hagsploitation element with that deadite grandma ! perfect movie
and horror movies that absolutely torment the hell out of their lead are probably my favourite kind of horror, and the last one that really did a great job at this was drag me to hell back in 2009 so imagine my joy right now
i put on the texas chain saw massacre (1974) and forgot how effortlessly cool everyone looks especially pam with her little red shorts and that infamous backless swimsuit top… i love her
WHALEFALL: a 90-minute version of NOPE's digestion scene coupled with a healthy serving of daddy issues. claustrophobic, disgusting, and visceral in equal measures. a great adaptation of a novel i wholeheartedly love—austin abrams is truly our generation's bruce campbell.
one dark night (1982) has the same running gag as norma’s hyperfixation on her little hat in carrie (1976), except here it’s kitty, one of the mean girls, who spends the entire movie chewing on a toothbrush like it’s a fashion accessory… autistic representation

*rt so i can find my old mutuals again*
@HUSHmelb slashers have always borrowed from each other that’s literally part of the genre’s history… and yes, three people being stalked by a potential killer is about as classic a slasher setup as you can get you dumbass
