Harry Potter losing all FOUR grandparents before he turned 11 is one of the strangest unexplained details in the entire series.

James and Lily died in their early twenties. That means their parents could realistically have been in their 40s or 50s when Harry became an orphan.

And the Potters were a wealthy wizarding family whose ancestors lived unusually long lives.

So where were Harry’s grandparents? Why was there nobody from either side of his family who could take him in?

I know the Dursleys were chosen because of Lily’s protection, but that doesn’t explain why ALL FOUR grandparents were already dead.

JK Rowling really left Harry without a single living grandparent, and the books barely explain how that happened.
