As an Indian woman from Muslim heritage, I write this rebuttal with the clarity and directness that comes from living the reality @Ilhan only tweets about from afar. Ilhan Omar’s claim that India has reached the “eighth stage of genocide” against Muslims is not analysis. It is reckless, fact-free propaganda that insults every one of us who actually live here, work here, raise families here, and exercise our rights every single day.
If there were even the beginning of genocide, our population would not have exploded. In 1951, Muslims were about 9.8% of India. By 2011, we were 14.2%. Today we are estimated around 14.5–15%, heading toward 18% by 2050 according to Pew projections. From roughly 35 million in 1951 to over 200 million now. Absolute numbers have multiplied nearly six-fold while the country’s overall population grew far slower in percentage terms. Genocide does not produce the world’s largest Muslim-minority population that keeps growing faster than the national average for decades. It produces mass graves and fleeing refugees. We have neither.
We vote in every election in the world’s largest democracy. We contest seats, win them, become MPs, ministers, judges, IAS officers, doctors, engineers, and business leaders. Three Presidents of India have been Muslim. We serve in the armed forces and police. We own businesses, run hospitals, produce films, and dominate segments of entertainment and sports. This is not the signature of a community facing extermination.
We are thriving and prospering — with real data and real lives. Yes, like every large community, we have internal challenges — lower average literacy and educational enrollment in some metrics, pockets of poverty, and the need for better skilling. But the narrative of uniform victimhood is a lie told by people who have never walked through a Muslim-dominated area in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, or Kerala and seen the middle class, the professionals, the entrepreneurs, and the young women studying medicine and engineering.
Prominent Indian Muslims — from business (Wipro’s Azim Premji built one of India’s largest companies), to cinema (generations of stars and directors), to sports, academia, and medicine — show what is possible when talent meets opportunity in a free society. Millions of ordinary Muslim families have moved from villages to cities, from informal work to formal jobs, from one generation of limited schooling to the next pursuing professional degrees. That is prosperity in motion, not persecution.
We enjoy specific rights and accommodations that Hindus as a group do not. This is the part Omar and her echo chamber never mention. Indian Muslims operate under a parallel personal law system for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance rooted in Sharia. Hindus do not.
After independence, Hindu personal law was comprehensively reformed and codified into a uniform framework (Hindu Marriage Act, Hindu Succession Act, etc.). Muslims retained the right to follow their own religious laws — including provisions for polygamy (up to four wives) and differential inheritance rules that the Hindu majority surrendered decades ago.
We also have constitutional minority protections under Articles 29 and 30 that allow us to establish and administer our own educational institutions with significant autonomy — rights the Hindu majority does not claim as a group because it is not classified as a minority. The Waqf Act gives Muslim institutions unique control over vast religious and charitable properties in a manner unparalleled for any other community.
In short: the Indian state has gone out of its way, through personal laws and minority safeguards, to preserve and accommodate Muslim religious and cultural identity in ways it has not extended equivalently to the Hindu majority. These are not “equal rights” in every narrow sense — they are deliberate accommodations that give us more space to live according to our traditions than the majority community receives under the same Constitution.
As a woman from Muslim heritage in India, I have the full protection of the Indian Constitution plus the framework of personal law. The criminalization of instant triple talaq in 2019 removed a specific vulnerability that existed under uncodified practice. I can study, work, vote, travel, criticize the government, wear what I choose (or not), and practice my faith openly — all while living in a country where my community’s population share has steadily risen for 75 years.
@Ilhan Omar’s “eighth stage of genocide” rhetoric is not solidarity. It is the lazy export of American culture-war talking points onto a country and a people she does not understand. It erases the agency of 200+ million Indian Muslims who are neither cowering nor waiting for rescue from Washington. It cheapens the word “genocide” while real atrocities happen elsewhere.
Stop peddling foreign fantasies about our lives. We are here. We are visible. We are voting. We are building. And we reject your narrative with the facts of our own existence. That is the view from inside — not from a podium in the United States.
Kejriwal is too big a narcissist & control freak to lose control to a bunch of upstarts. That’s why AAP can’t “reinvent” itself. What’s happening is the global NGO ecosystem & its local minions are dumping Kejriwal. The problem is that the supply of scumbags is so low, they have to recycle the same clowns.
How many of you remember Greta Thunberg’s toolkit, which was leaked during the planned farmers' protest?
She is a climate activist.
Surprisingly, Saurav Das of CJP runs a shady climate consultancy outfit.
Sonam Wangchuk also runs companies in the name of climate change.
Ashutosh Ranka was also active in Rajasthan on the same subject.
Do you know why?
Billions are floating from tax-haven countries and from so-called elites into NGOs in India.
If you check their location, you will find them in extremely strategically important locations, from Ladakh to Kerala and from Kutchh to the northeast.
They also use this money to file PILs against strategic projects and to fund on-the-ground protests.
Dear Gen Z of India, you are just a tool for this industry right now. They don't care for you. Be aware.
HOLY SHIT.
The Wikipedia expose on HAF just confirmed what many Hindus have been saying for YEARS.
A tiny network of leftie activist editors hijacked pages related to Hindus, Hindutva, caste, and India and turned Wikipedia into a propaganda machine.
They have smeared Hindu organizations as “extremist,” “nationalist,” and “fascist adjacent” while sanitizing and protecting activist groups openly hostile to Hindus.
And the scariest part?
This garbage doesn’t stay on Wikipedia.
It gets fed into Google searches, media narratives, academia, AI systems, and public perception worldwide.
A handful of anonymous editors can effectively shape how BILLIONS of people understand Hindus and India.
People mocked Hindus for warning about coordinated information warfare.
Turns out they were right.
Since no permission or order is required in order to achieve true democracy, will he be okay if some other gorup, say Bajrang Dal or some, also reach the protest site at the same time same day?
@sewanyaya@thewire_in This trivialisation is disgraceful.
A ‘journalist’ barely able to mask her glee, and a JNU ‘professor’ tittering over her own half-baked assumptions.
This is what intellectual dishonesty and agenda-driven disconnect look like.
Modi-hatred is almost a requirement to be called an "intellectual" in some circles. We have to counter them, so let's recall some history.
Congress had left Punjab, Kashmir, Assam all burning. The Naxal menace had made middle India ungovernable. Bihar and UP had become lawless. Bengal stagnated and deteriorated.
Today, Bengal has been rescued from the lawless TMC. For the first time since my childhood, we can discuss development and progress in all these states. We can disagree on specific paths to development, but at least we get to have that conversation.
These achievements did not happen magically. They required a lot of hard work and sacrifice - and all of it happened democratically. Let us not forget that Congress used Article 356 very often to dismiss state governments and now they lecture us on "democratic values".
If we elect the wrong crowd, we risk losing all the gains we have made.
Modi and Shah have provided strong and resolute leadership that has allowed these useless intellectuals to indulge their Modi hatred. Deep down, even they know the truth.
🙏#Corruption #Accountability #MakeOfficersAccountable
@iamsum80 Not forgetting blatant bad remake of a scene. This one right here is a slo mo cringe take of a scene in blue beetle 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️.
This is when something like Dhurandhar comes along, it feels refreshing to see and hear despite reusing old songs.
This is a completely incorrect way of looking how currencies should be compared. Every Indian needs to know this.
Let me explain.
So yes, mathematically the rupee has weakened against all three. But Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are NOT showing currency strength.
They’re showing currency death.
Their currencies stopped falling because there’s nothing left to fall.
Pakistan went from 105 to 280 over seven years. Sri Lanka went from 180 to 365 during their 2022 bankruptcy. Bangladesh has been on IMF watch.
When a currency hits rock bottom, it stops moving because the floor has been reached. The IMF steps in. Capital controls get imposed. Imports get restricted. The economy contracts to fit the currency.
That’s why their currencies look “stable” right now. Not because they’re strong. Because they’re frozen at distressed levels propped up by IMF bailouts and capital controls.
India still has a floating, market-determined currency in an actively trading economy of 1.4 billion people.
When the dollar strengthens globally, the INR moves. That’s how healthy currencies behave.
Imagine two patients. Patient A has fever moving from 99 to 101. Patient B is in a coma at body temperature 95. You don’t say “Patient B is healthier because their temperature isn’t rising.” Patient B is closer to dead.
The right comparison is with active, market-determined economies of similar scale.
INR has fallen 12% vs USD. Korean won fell 8%. Brazilian real fell 11%. Indonesian rupiah fell 6%. Japanese yen fell 9%.
We’re middle of the pack among countries that are actually functioning normally.
The Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka comparison is the equivalent of “I’m losing weight faster than the corpses in the morgue.”
Technically true. Completely meaningless.
Reading Udhayanidhi Stalin reminds me of Manjulika in Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Avni empathises so deeply with Manjulika's injustice that she slowly becomes her. She doesn't leave Avni until she has killed the Raja she sees as the root of all pain.
The Self-Respect Movement at its best was an appreciable reform in Tamil Nadu. But at its worst, Dravidian ideology instills a perpetual victimhood where you start seeing your own countrymen as oppressors, forgetting that even they are blends, just like you.
Dravidian ideology's fascination with Islam isn't new. Even Periyar met with Jinnah in 1940. Dravidistan and Pakistan were sister secessionist projects with the same separatist logic.
When Udhayanidhi today says Dravidianism and Islam are "fundamentally the same," he's showing us what ideology does to the spirit at its worst, it kills your empathy willing to see things destroy in the name of justice.
The movement that began wanting to liberate ended up importing the very supremacist frame it was fighting. Such ideologies should not longer have grounds in India. We need to pave the path forward together.
Let Manjulika leave.
Singapore PM, on May 1st, said their country needs to prepare for food, fertilizer, and fuel shortages. PM Modi too, just a few days back, said India needs to prepare for difficult times similar to Covid-19.
Responsible countries and their responsible leaders prepare their countries and citizens like this. I would be more worried if PM Modi or GoI acted all cool and as if India's all set for political posturing.
