Looking forward to preaching tomorrow on Pentecost Sunday @VineyardCbus a message titled “What Will Heal America’s Divide?” The Spirit was not only given to empower, but also to create unity! How does unity come about? How are our divisions healed?
Dear Tina Turner,
So glad you left a good job in the city working for the man every night and day. You did us women proud and made the world stage decisively rowdier. We’ll keep rolling on the river.
What’s love got to do with it? As it turns out, a lot.
We loved you.
There is great hope in knowing God is not calling us to bigger, better or extraordinary. He wants to take the small, hidden, little & seemingly unimportant things in our lives & inject them with eternal glory. We can rest in our commonness, our ordinariness, and our smallness.
I came to church thinking that faith would be like an epidural.
Something that would take all my pain away.
But I found out that faith is more like a midwife.
A nurturing partner who leans into the pain with me.

How often do we look at the fruit of the Spirit, put on our scientific hats and try to figure out how to genetically modify it to super produce in us?
There is no GMO Spiritual fruit. It will be given in the season God gives, the amount God gives, the way that God gives.
@MichaelaFlack My childhood United Methodist church said trespasses. I never really thought much about it, but I think I like debts better. Trespasses implies just stoping and debts implies a need for repentance.
"We often get sin and wounds confused. Sins are rebellious place in our hearts that need repenting. Wounds are tender places in our hearts that need healing. You cannot repent of wounds and you cannot go to therapy for sins.”
This insight from Darrin Patrick has stuck with me.
Here’s a guy who needs our prayers! Patrick Gelsinger is one of the few outspoken and very generous Christians leading a massive high tech company. And Intel is coming to Columbus!

The Gospel (Good News) isn’t that Jesus died and rose again just so that we can die and escape to heaven.
The Good News is that Jesus redeems us so that we can join him in redeeming and restoring all of creation from sin - on earth as in heaven.
