#Waymo has temporarily suspended robotaxi freeway operations across its U.S. service areas and paused service in Atlanta while updating software to better handle construction zones and flooded roads. The company said regular street operations are continuing.
The decision follows a recent incident in Atlanta where an empty robotaxi stopped in flood water, as well as a recall of about 3,800 vehicles after Waymo identified a risk that some robotaxis could enter flooded roadways on higher-speed roads.
The move comes as Waymo accelerates expansion in the autonomous ride-hailing market while facing growing competition from Tesla and Zoox.
