Would the where statement create the factorial of the %test% (24 different approaches) like [test, Test, TEst, TESt, …]? Would snowflake cast the col1 to upper/lower and look like that? I feel like ilike is very inefficient but I don’t really get what’s happening under the hood.
@teej_m friends and I were discussion snowflake query optimizations (as per usual) and figured I’d ask you the question. If I had a column (‘col1’) that is varchar and there are 1,000 rows of it. How many scans would “where col1 ilike ‘%test%’” produce?
Dear people writing code: Never create a class/file/package with “utilities” in its name. You are opening an escape hatch for people trying to avoid thinking about where things should go. It will inevitably grow to become a sprawling, misshapen, widely-hated monster.
I agree. When Ive been asked the tech question I relate it to music. “I want to learn music”… okay like learning how to play an instrument? A style of music? The theory behind it? It’s too broad of a statement.
