Chicago has so few pedestrian only spaces. Implementing this with a car-free bike space in the center creates unneeded conflicts. People on bikes and scooters can easily access other routes if they need to. This area will feel much more calm without a bikeway in the middle.

This is an amazing development, even if only for 7 hours a month. There is one major improvement that needs to be made here though. Cyclists and scooter riders should be required to dismount in the car-free area.

@slowstreetsorg I’m so completely mystified as to how this could happen from reversing out of a spot across the street. Jesus, that’s SUCH a busy pedestrian spot, too. There’s no reason that strip needs to be open to cars.

There is no place in Chicago more ripe for pedestrianization than Lincoln Ave between Leland and Lawrence. There were hundreds of trick-or-treating families crowded onto the narrow sidewalks today so a few dozen drivers could park their cars.

Well, are we going to do it once and for all Lincoln Square?! Please see the video for a view of Lincoln Square last year. I think the number of customer visits are way up because the number of drive-throughs, drive-tos, and drive-ins are down.

@dylan___wilder @formerlyaustin The fewer people driving the better it is for drivers. Adding alternatives to driving is the only way to reduce traffic and allow communities to grow. So it is for the benefit of drivers too isn’t it?

@GabinoStevo @AldermanLaSpata Adding more space for cars always increases congestion. It’s been tried and failed everywhere in this country. Removing space for cars alleviates it.
