Trump is an adjudicated rapist, and it’s fair to be angry that the GOP refuses to hold its own accountable when it comes to violence against women. But that doesn’t excuse or minimize the accusations against Platner or any other Democrat.
Credible allegations of physical or sexual violence against women, with independent corroboration, can’t be ignored — whether it's a Democrat or Republican, a private citizen or a senior leader, like the President of the United States.
Mr. Platner has denied the allegations, and he has the right to defend himself -- but at a certain point every leader has to decide what’s best for the people he hopes to represent.
He should do the right thing, drop out quickly, and give Maine Democrats the opportunity to select a new nominee who can compete and win in November.
I agree that Platner should drop out. The allegations are horrible and I see no reason why his accuser would lie. Some things have to be beyond the pale.
I swear to God, if Michael fucking Tracey is right about this, and Platner winds up dropping out before the collective "aw, fuck" happens, I'll be very disheartened.
But at this point, in this race? He needs to get the fuck out right now.
The woman now accusing Graham Platner of sexual assault and/or rape, Jenny Racicot, already spoke to the New York Times for its June 4 article on Platner. In that article, she recounted having "positive memories" of her relationship with Platner, but said there was an episode in 2021, about which she "declined to elaborate," that she found “reckless” and “unsettling."
She now claims she told the NYT off the record that she was sexually assaulted, but this contradicts the NYT's characterization that she "declined to elaborate" on the 2021 episode.
According to POLITICO, she was upset by the reaction to the NYT article, so she began collaborating with "Cheyenne Hunt, a progressive Democratic lawyer who founded the nonprofit Reckoning Action, which launched earlier this year to fight misogyny" and was previously involved with ousting Eric Swalwell. (By the way, have any of those Swalwell rape claims been corroborated yet?)
Hunt then "connected" Racicot with POLITICO, which now claims that "at first, she confided [about the purported sexual assault] only in her therapist, who she continues to see," but the therapist "declined to comment when reached on Monday." Why would the therapist decline to provide corroboration, if authorized to do so by Racicot?
The only corroboration involving the therapist cited by POLITICO are "recent emails" with the therapist, in which Racicot explained she was talking to the media about her relationship with Platner and the “sa/rape." As in: "corroboration" from only the past month -- about an episode that allegedly occurred in 2021? During a period over the past month when Racicot was collaborating with this advocacy lawyer/organization and media entities to bring forth additional claims about Platner?
Has everyone just 100% removed their brains and deposited them into the nearest sewage receptacle on this stuff?
Kevin McCarthy on Platner Allegations: That one thing I know about Republicans is when we had a very bad candidate, we didn't vote for that person. We walked away.
Mitch McConnell remaining technically alive for an extra three weeks because of a manipulative procedural maneuver is exactly how he would have wanted to go out.
The strange thing about celebrating the 250th anniversary of Independence Day is that we live under a more tyrannical government now than the one that the founders fought for independence from.
Notice when you want an abortion the fetus is a person but when we talk about immigration, actual children are called offspring.
Words matter. They are saying the Nazi shit out loud. Listen to them.

If @elonmusk is actually all about putting his money where his mouth is, he'd voluntarily donate every dollar needed to combat the NWS outbreak in Texas and apologize for stripping this nation of the infrastructure meant to keep this from happening, which DOGE deemed "waste"
The fact WH is fretting about this is incriminating in and of itself. Also… Let me be clear: if the reporters actually got incriminating recordings and they sat on them to publish a book instead of breaking news, that is a complete dereliction of duty.
If The New York Times got its hands on leaked audio recordings from the Situation Room, then we have a massive national security crisis on our hands. That very likely means our enemies know everything that’s been said in that room, at least since Trump took over.
This should be a massive scandal.
