TIL that proteins are depicted as "ribbon-like" structures, with alpha helices as spirals and beta-sheets as arrows, because of Jane Richardson.
In 1981, Richardson hand-drew and -colored proteins for a research paper. Her style was later adopted by the protein science field.
The May release of DAQ-Score Database of protein structure validation for cryo-EM maps! Now analyzes over 200K protein chains in PDB determined via #cryoEM. Still, we see many potential errors in models. Check https://t.co/MmQzn1BJjk @PurdueScience
@BL_Balthaser Alas my Alma mater, but Indiana as a state sucks now. Anti-apartheid shanties once sat on the IU Union lawn for years. Now faculty worry about the impending law by @SpencerDeery allowing tenure revocation if โintellectual diversityโ (ie, conservative) is deemed insufficient

You can watch this hearing tomorrow at the link below. I challenge everyoneโespecially those who pride themselves on open mindednessโto watch & follow the evidence.
If we donโt speak up for these scientists, who will speak up for us when itโs our turn?

"The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy estimates it would cost just over $24 billion to have prototype vaccines ready for each of the 26 known viral families that cause human disease."
This is a huge bargain and itโs insane that weโre not fully funding it.
