The primary purpose of NATO enlargement in the Western Balkans is absolutely to ward off the threat of renewed Serbian aggression against its neighbors. A threat which, sadly, remains present, given that Vucic’s regime explicitly promotes the creation of a “Serbian World,” still refuses to recognize the sovereignty of Kosovo, has engineered pro-Serbian coup attempts in Montenegro, has a history of likewise (in)directly meddling in the internal affairs of North Macedonia, and aggressively supports Serb secessionists in BiH.

If Serbia is not a threat to its neighbors, then it should have no issue with their pursuing membership in NATO. Its opposition, however, is precisely why it is necessary.
