Last Wednesday, @TheJusticeDept released its final rule on web and app accessibility for state & local governments. AFB's public policy staff have been eagerly reading all 300+ pages. Check out this blog post to learn about the rule & get their first take: https://t.co/dzRGGniEHS
AFB is excited that the DOJ has announced that a final rule requiring state and local government websites and apps to be accessible is coming soon! This rule covers public education, voting, transit, and so much more: #a11y https://t.co/6p5Rf9TUUY 1/7
@Kenmcld Looks bad, & I have lots of Qs. Are curb cuts going to point in the right direction? Are they accessible to someone listening to traffic noise for orientation? Do they have specific instructions with an Accessible Pedestrian Signal? What if someone just wants to cross one road?
In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, 52 organizations, including @AFB1921, joined a statement calling for policy action to improve digital accessibility. Read it here: https://t.co/ugCnQfZ6sl #GAAD2023#a11y
This year we gave our valentines to audio description (thanks to v/o actors like @aprilwattsvo), the website @ImportYeti, and the @BLS_gov's Employment Situation reportโs monthly revisions!
Let us know, what are you giving your valentines to this year?

It is so important for property owners to clear snow from sidewalks. As this story shows, not clearing snow and ice eliminates transportation for nondrivers. Wouldn't it also be nice if cities could put as much effort into clearing ice from pedestrian pathways as from roadways?
@schmangee Not an interview, but here is the report of some research on the experiences of adults with vision loss. Lots of people had ways that they got around independently, but most people still rely on family and friends with cars to make things work. https://t.co/sidsr0bHNs
@the_transit_guy AVs promise accessible curb-to-curb transportation options to nondrivers esp when transit, taxis, or sidewalks are unavailable or unreliable. Of course, this promise is premised on accessible design, safety, and other equity standards, plus rural availability. Part of a system.
The ways in which this world remains inaccessible are profound. Inaccessibility - in all forms - is not just a human rights issue but is a major barrier to health equity. It is time we invest in making change. @JHUDisability https://t.co/4TYEkICNm9
The CVAA was a landmark piece of legislation, but it's time for an update. The Communications, Technology, and Video Accessibility Act will provide opportunity, independence, and inclusion for all Americans now and in the future.
We are deeply troubled by reports that the entire engineering accessibility team at Twitter has been terminated. If Twitter is going to remain usable to millions of users with disabilities it *must* remain accessible. #a11y
Two weeks ago in the United States Congress, @SenDuckworth and @RepSarbanes introduced a proposed law about web and software accessibility. It has the strong support of major #disability organizations. I wrote about it here: https://t.co/qL7KjyXVP8 #a11y#webdev#ux

@blakereid It appeards that screen readers are reading something like, "this is the latest version of this tweet" for edited tweets. At least that's what I heard with NVDA.
