An esteemed University of Fort Hare (UFH) legal academic, alumna, and proud daughter of Qaga Village in the Eastern Cape, Prof Nomthandazo Ntlama-Makhanya, has been appointed Judge of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court in Makhanda, bringing to the Bench a career shaped by law, learning, and service.
Her appointment was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 13 May (last Wednesday), under Section 174(6) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, and on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission.
Prof Ntlama-Makhanya describes the milestone as โa major breakthrough in my professional life.โ Even so, she speaks about the moment with great humility.

Legal innocence does not erase political accountability. South Africa deserves leaders who know when to fall on their sword. ๐ฟ๐ฆ

If you happen to be in a position of leadership today, please LEAD and do what youโre paid to do TODAY.
Spare us the sudden wisdom after the damage is done and the cameras are rolling. Save us from all the reflections, the lessons learned, the explanations about what should have happened when you were literally in the position to make it happen but you chose not to for whatever reason. Just save us.
You canโt exercise leadership in hindsight, no matter how angelic you become after the fact. Tragic, I know. But fortunately, you have the opportunity to act NOW. Once you do, your actions will definitely speak for themselves when youโre gone.
And if you ever feel the need to speak, at least tell us what you DID, not what you could or should have done.
With Love,
Deputy Motherโค๏ธ

The ANC liberated you to be stupid if you want, @MbalulaFikile, so you are well within your rights to say "the center hold."
But, may constitutionalism, accountability, and the rule of law forever outlive political convenience. โ๐พ๐ฟ๐ฆ

30 years ago today, at the adoption of our historic Constitution, then-Deputy President Thabo Mbeki declared that our Africanness would never be defined by race, colour, or gender. Instead, it is rooted in the truth that all Africans share a common origin and a common destiny. This document, a unique creation of African hands and minds, remains our guiding light toward a society free from fear, oppression, and inequality. South Africa belongs to all who live in it!
A freedom fighter. A woman who refused to bow down. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was not built for comfort or compromise. She was shaped in the fire of struggle, where silence meant surrender and standing up came at a cost.

โ... certainly we can never mention brother Nelson Mandela without mentioning Winnie Mandela...โ Dr Khalid Mohammad
Winnie Mandala was certainly a front line commander. The real fight against aparthied was really fought inside the country.
โThe whole of Africa lost something when he died. #OliverTambo was in a class of his own. We have lost a truly great man."
- President Kenneth Kaunda
Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the passing of #ORTambo, who, after dedicating his life to the struggle for South Africa's liberation, passed away one year before the first democratic elections.

The Chris Hani Memorandum & Morogoro Conference
Today, Episode 9 of the #ANCHistorySeries on #AfricanRenaissancePodcast focuses on the historic Chris Hani Memo and the watershed conference that adopted the first Strategy and Tactics of the ANC: Morogoro Conference. This is the first time ANC officially adopted NDR as its theory of struggle.
We ask: What gave rise to the Memo? What did it contain? How did it affect the ANC? Did its contents end up in Morogoro Conference Resolutions? Was the Strategy & Tactics a Communist capture of the ANC? And what happened to the central figures who wrote & influenced the memo?
Looking at these questions, we hold a round table discussion with veterans Mavuso Msimang and Ronnie Kasrils.

I feel for him, heโs no different from Nkosi, Sibiya, Senona, and the rest of the liars who appeared before the commission. Heโs a blatant liar. But I have no doubt he will be dealt with, certainly by the commissioners.
