@WeAreSinclair sent us a ‘cease and desist’ letter to intimidate us into stop speaking about David Smith’s attempts
to undermine Black political power in Baltimore.
We think it’s important for the community to decide for themselves whether we are besmirching their reputation or if we are just speaking the truth.✊🏾
#Baltimore-based think-tank, #LeadersOfABeautifulStruggle (LBS), has received a cease and desist letter from #SinclairBroadcastGroup (Sinclair) over claims of promoting ballot initiatives that aim to diminish Black political power. https://t.co/Vjb5Uo6s1k
A special message from our CEO - Adam Jackson (@smartblackman):
Peace & Blessings Family,
I am excited to share some significant news. Starting this month, I will begin transitioning from my role as CEO of Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle (LBS), with my complete departure slated for the end of 2024.
Why am I departing LBS? Simply put - it’s time.
I have entered a new chapter in my life, one filled with new opportunities to explore and experiences to embrace. The time has come for me to embark on a new journey.
Who could have imagined that 14 years would pass so quickly?
From our humble beginnings as a small student organization on a college campus to becoming a leading Pan-African political organization, our journey has exceeded my wildest dreams. I am in awe of the experiences I have had over the years.
From passing statewide legislation and leading a national debate institute to traveling across the US to organize and inspire younger generations of Black people, it has been an incredible ride.
Thank you to the entire LBS team. Your support has been invaluable. You have held me down, held me together, and pushed me forward, all at once. I would not be the leader I am today without you.
Thank you to everyone who has given their time, talent, or resources to LBS. Your contributions made it possible for me to lead. I could not have come this far without your love and support.
I want to give a special thank you to my love, Cathryn, for being such a loving and supportive partner throughout this process.
Serving my community alongside the most committed team of Black people has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
I am confident that LBS will continue to thrive and advance our people’s liberation in tremendously capable hands.
Onward and upward. Uhuru!
-Adam
🤔
But the station you work say the opposite every single day.
@FOXBaltimore / @WeAreSinclair literally advances a narrative that Black people are more violent from the stories that they run.
And you - a Black man - directly participate in making it happen.
It doesn’t take a genius to see that there’s a problem here. Regardless of if you’re a democrat or conservative….this should be alarming. It’s not that black people are inherently more violent. It’s that the government has put down black people for generations, they’ve destroyed their lives and livelihoods and forced them into disproportionate poverty, well-fare, single parent households, and more.
In an interview on FOX45 about mentoring Black boys, @DayvonLove confronts Armstrong Williams (@Arightside) about @WeAreSinclair /@foxbaltimore’s coverage of juvenile crime in Baltimore and how it leads to racist policies.
Later this month - we’ll be breaking down the racist/white supremacist coverage of @WeAreSinclair / @FOXBaltimore and how they’re currently waging a war of propaganda on Baltimore’s Black community.
Please read this important commentary from @DayvonLove@LBSBaltimore#mdga2024
We are thankful to all of those standing together and working hard against the backslide to failed policies that harm disproportionately Black children and do not keep us safe. There is a better way.
“For every highly visible story of a violent crime by a young person, there are so many more stories of young people whose lives are irreparably harmed by their contact with the criminal justice system that will not be aired on tv” @DayvonLove https://t.co/NsuVh97t8b
FOX45 is not concerned about transparency. They are using white supremacist dog whistles to cast aspersions on Black organizations.
We need to stop them from doing this.
What I’m describing isn’t necessarily new or groundbreaking. But it is important that we don’t look at @FoxBaltimore/@WeAreSinclair are some independent journalistic news organization.
They are parasites that are working to destroy our community.
And that’s how we need to treat them.
THREAD: @FoxBaltimore/@WeAreSinclair actually uses white supremacist propaganda to dehumanize Black Baltimore Residents. What’s dangerous about it is that we can miss it, unless we’re paying attention. Let’s discuss how Fox45/Sinclair is doing this in a few ways…
5. Demonizing the Enemy: Portray opponents as evil, dangerous, or subhuman. This dehumanization makes it easier for the audience to accept negative actions against them.
Who is the enemy according to @FoxBaltimore/@WeAreSinclair? Black residents.
This is done in several ways:
Black political leaders are painted as corrupt, inept and unqualified.
Black working class residents are portrayed as unintelligent, violent and parasitic.
Black organizations and programs are portrayed as disorganized, dysfunctional and untrustworthy.
This is done to undermine our faith in our own community so that we can accept their solution, which is ultimately removing Black people either by displacing us by social, political and/or physical force.
I'm still not done with @FoxBaltimore/@WeAreSinclair.
They are currently waging warfare on Baltimore's Black community with their false narratives and terrible "reporting".
