@bruce_arthur "Insert a smart quip about the sovereignty of the wealthy province that can’t manage its coffers well, being supported by the wealthy people who can’t manage their wallets well." - totally stolen from a friend in a group chat
Each time Alberta has established an Electoral Boundaries Commission to redraw election maps the government has accepted the commission’s majority report, so I was surprised and disappointed to learn that a committee of MLAs has instead been tasked with creating a new map. /1
The provincial government has just imposed the largest property tax increase on Calgarians in history.
In 2026, Alberta is increasing its share of your property tax bill by 21.05%. Nearly 42% of every residential property tax dollar now goes directly to the Province, and the City is legally required to collect this massive tax increase.
For a typical $706,000 home:
🔺 Province: +$339
🔹 City: +$49
We did our work to restrain spending while focusing on safety and core infrastructure. The City’s increase is 1.81%.
The total increase is about $388, with the overwhelming majority driven by the Province.

@Annavv83@TheSwiftSociety Literally Christ has not always been there. Read the bible. The entire Old Testament (and more ancient history) are before Jesus' birth.
And what she's referencing is that time is marked as "Before Christ" and "after Christ" (like, it is currently 2026 years AferChrist)
When a concerned Albertan raised concerns about vulnerable Albertans being treated fairly by an Alberta Police force…
Bruce McAllister cut her mic and told her to leave.
This is the UCP’s “consultation”.

At tonight’s “consultation”…
When a high school kid tried to raise concerns about the teachers strike, Bruce McAllister cut the kids mic and then suggested his parents should have beaten him more.
Listen to the clip yourself…
It’s…
Telling.

@jasmine_mian Thank you for asking your question about how provincial tax redistribution is different from Equalization. I'll miss your no-nonsense presence in my council.
Hey @TimHortons how come every time I've had a birthday cake timbit in the last year (or more) it's been cherry instead of white?
Besides being gross, it's also an allergy risk
UCP candidate Scott Cyr has it backwards. Limiting the chance for foreign students to study in Alberta doesn't just block their growth, it also limits Alberta's opportunity to grow.
"No Outsiders Allowed" is hardly a forward-thinking way to build #ABetterFuture
Great election debate tonight! Rachel Notley showed she's passionate about public health care and education. She'll make sure there are enough teachers in classrooms and she'll fix repair the damage to health care caused by 4 years of a conservative government.
#ableg
One reason Rachel Notley is having an amazing debate? Because she BELIEVES in her plans to build a better future. Danielle Smith has spent years advocating AGAINST the plans she's now standing on. We can't trust Smith.
Observations from #ABdebate tonight.
Smith: So glued to her her controlled script. Her handlers know the cost of people hearing the real her.
Notley: Strong on health care, education, UCP cuts. Freely spoken because she's not lying and she knows right from wrong.
