Cesc did not walk into a finished club.
He signed for Como as a player in 2022 when they were still in Serie B. Played a season, retired and went straight to the youth team. Then the first team called. He did not even have the full licence yet, so they put him as interim, then as assistant and still used him to help drag that side up to Serie A.

In 2024 they made him head coach for real.

First season back in the top flight they finished 10th. Last season they finished 4th. Champions League football for the first time in the club’s history. A club that was in Serie D not that long ago. A stadium on the lake, the Sinigaglia, built in 1927, holding a little over 10,000 for Europe after they had to rebuild parts of it just to be allowed to play this game.

People treated it like a holiday project. Henry stayed, Cesc stayed. The team kept getting better.

Tonight was the first European night this club has ever had.

4-1 against Leipzig. Baturina, Douvikas, Diao, Perrone.
First appearance, first win. That is how this story sits right now.
