That ‘heroic perilous intervention’ comes with an enormous downside: total body and mind exhaustion, which can last for days, weeks or longer.

I just view it as the brain shifting into immediate Hyperfocus, until the crisis ends, or one just stops working.

At 53 I can vividly recall all the times I had to switch gears to deal with an emergency, but also remember just how much it took out of me.

I now try to avoid unexpected ‘emergencies’, by keeping the lowest of profiles.

But my head is so full of “well, if it happened once, then it’ll happen again…”, so I’m in a near constant state of excessive mental vigilance, paranoia and anxiety.

There really is no winning…

Taken in Istanbul, whilst taking a ferry on the Bosphorus Strait, to one of the inhabited tourist islands. The ferry is followed by flocks of these birds, as tourists throw out food to them, so relatively straightforward to get a decent ‘looking down on the bird’ shot.

Bit of artistic licence with the colouring of the water…
