Decontamination X Takeover May '24. We have 11 drivers who cover a 24hr service 363 days/year. They deliver the surgical equipment across the ARI site, Woodend, clinics & GP practices from Lossiemouth to Stracathro & everywhere in-between. They also assist in the autoclave area.
We process around 2.9 million pieces of surgical instrumentation every year. We are a team of 80 staff and we operate 24hr aday 5 days a week on a rota basis. We also cover weekends. All staff who take part in the decontamination process complete a two year training programme.
The Robotics decon unit is the processing facility for all robotic surgery procedures. We have a specialised low temperature steriliser designed especially for these delicate instruments. We process around 23,000 instruments a year. We also support Highland robotic surgery needs.
The Endoscopy Unit can process up to 70 scopes per day, 5 days per week. That’s around 18,200 per year. It’s a small unit with 14 basins which runs 14 hours per day manned by a small team over 2 shifts. The unit supports multiple areas in the acute sector.
Decontamination X Takeover May '24. Here the equipment is checked and then loaded into the sterilisers. When the sterilisers are complete, heavy crates like Orthopaedic kit can take up to 6 hours to cool down before being transported to theatres.
Decontamination X Takeover May 24. Following the washer/disinfection process staff visually inspect, check instruments for damage and wrap trays ready for sterilization. This room is a tested and controlled environment, to ensure conditions for the surgical equipment is optimum.
