@sanketgator @woland_666 @joshtpm @crampell Employer can apply for a green card for you regardless of whether you're on an H1b or not. The H1b doesn't make it any easier to get approved. The labor certification (that the job can't be filled by any American) is still a huge barrier.

@Lollardfish If you recall, it was the right-wing that had an absolute cow when Miers was nominated. Those on the left just thought she was unqualified. Obviously it wasn't opposition from the left that forced him to retract the pick. And yes, we'd be better off w/o Alito.
