@MatthewHoyles3 That’s a very good point, music should be judged based on where the artist is from, if you like the music you should be able to listen to it.
I think having a quota for Canadian content is important for artist to gain exposure to their music and have a chance to gain popularity over other artist, especially when it comes to radio plays. Many popular songs wouldn’t be known without it. #mus2011f20
@McGrath_14 I agree! The atmosphere that is created at a live event is unmatched because it creates a sense of unity between people who just want to enjoy music.
#mus2011f20 I think that by creating and producing a record gives the listener a better experience when listening to music simply because the quality is better; however, I think that this give people a more exciting experience when listening to an artist live. Agree & disagree.
@HulanColin I think that it is right to brand it as “cheap” because they essentially just stole the song and didn’t do much to make it their own other than have their image carry the “cover” of the song.
@jonnybrothers5 I completely agree, they create very negative impacts within the musics origin and culture and a complete wrong sense of “redoing” a song
#mus2011f20 The term “schlock” was used because the soul purpose of covering the music was to rebrand it as their own and appeal to the masses without having any artistic integrity of the song. White people were stealing songs rather than appreciating their origin.
@Ali_A_mun It seems as though mainstream artists today are incorporating that technique into the music more and more and it seems to appeal to many people because of its emotion and it’s “uniqueness”
#mus2011f20 Ray Charles had one of the most unique voices in the industry with the use of his “breaking voice” he gave his voice a lot of texture and let out almost a “cry” that help convey his emotions in a very captivating way.
@HVLEYSLVTER I also got my first iPod nano around the same age! As you said, it was amazing to have that new freedom and to start to appreciate and enjoy new music. Having access to music so easily at a young age has definitely shaped me into the type of person that I am today.
@DylanCr98568809 This is such a good point! People have gained the pleasure of being able to listen to what they want to without having to let anyone else hear. The use of headphones has given somewhat of a safe space for people to be themselves.
#mus2011f20 Technology of today has made it much easier for people to access music. This has helped in gaining exposure to different cultures and identities which ultimately influences the listeners and help them express their identity, finding what music suits them best.
#MUS2011F20 I believe that the music industry has normalize the concept that music is made for charts and for numbers rather than authenticity and originality. Artist tend to follow a pattern to stay relevant, keeping them and the listeners passive within the music industry.
