@swapneilparikh Or like you punch in a “disorder” which only exists to sell coloured glasses to vulnerable idiots and there’s nothing to suggest it doesn’t actually exist.
I’m not too worried about my job tbh
@PermitZIPhvac@RepGregMurphy Medicine isn’t protein folding though. The vast majority of cases I see the diagnosis is obvious. The problems I need to solve are almost always human or systems-related. If an LLM can get me a nursing home bed faster, I’ll be more invested.
@_22over7ish_@RepGregMurphy I know it annoys some doctors but I actually love it when patients come in having already googled/LLM’d their symptoms. It means that if they’re concerned about something specific we can address it as we go (eg “I have a headache is it a brain tumour”).
@JJeffrey100@RepGregMurphy That’s why ART is in capitals. Medical science is inherently flawed with problems around the quality of evidence and reproducibility, not to mention how the studies apply to the individual in front of you. Medicine is not a science. It’s an art informed by the evidence.
@CRyanMauk@RepGregMurphy Or speak with the family of a dying patient, or discuss active treatment vs palliative management, or balance QoL vs aggressive risk control…
People just have no idea what a doctor does
@JohnBaima@RepGregMurphy If you think medicine is about “getting the right diagnosis” rather than an iterative parallel process of relationship building and clinical reasoning you have no idea what you’re talking about.
@PermitZIPhvac@RepGregMurphy What do you think the AI is helping the physician do specifically? What is the role of the clinical gestalt which cannot be factored in? I just think people making this argument do not understand clinical reasoning.
@HabstheShep I talk to a lot of young people in my work. there’s still plenty of exceptional young people but the delta between them and the average sure does seem to be getting wider
@SurgeryBro I’m proud that so many people love having me as their GP but it’s also kinda sad that the bar is so low and so many have bad experiences with primary care. I’m not that good at medicine I just listen to people and have not yet completely burned out my empathy…
@TheSnoozeDoctor Imagine if your job was to sit around an office fretting about things that aren’t real for 75% of the day and then imposing your fomite psychosis on the rest of the workforce for the other 25%. We should feel sorry for them really.
@medievilbabe@TheSnoozeDoctor I agree with you. I believe there is some evidence that gloves reduced bbv transmission with needlesticks but a grown up clinician can assess those risks for themselves
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
@AvikarSaini also like my hospital EMR is from like 2011, my practice software is an iteration of a package that came out in 2004… I’m not holding my breath
