When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to play violent video games. I was pretty sheltered and had very little exposure to pretty commonplace things in the 90's/00's. One day I got a box of Chex cereal and Chex Quest was inside. I played the hell out of that game. Front and back, day and night I was hooked on what would later be considered "Boomer Shooters".
So imagine my surprise when I go over to a family member's house and they have a cool game on their computer that reminded me a lot of Chex Quest except it scared the hell out of me. It was DOOM, and it was everything I ever wanted. My life changed there, really.
I developed a lifelong love of games and eventually found myself working at Bethesda Softworks as a QA tester. One of my first games was DOOM 2016. I tested multiplayer and snap maps mostly, and wasn't even credited. Eventually I worked on DOOM Eternal leading a small group of QA testers on the publishing end of things.
I would not be the publisher, businessman, gamer, or even person I am today if it wasn't for id Software and their influence. I wouldn't be NoQuarter if I never found that physical disc in my box of cereal. That disc would not exist without id Software.
Thank you, id Software, for everything. You deserve better than what you've gotten.
id software didn’t deserve this.
Literally they took a “reboot” that everyone shat on them (and Bethesda) for initially and turned it into a seller. Then improved on it.
You say you want Quake and Doom, but then you gut the entire studio that could have made that happen.
A tweet is not sufficient to express how awful the Id news is.
You guys made the past decade a dream for FPS fans. Thank you so much for everything you did.
@rpwbrowne@georgebsocial Double Fine was struggling hard before they got bought out. I fear they might just land back in that position again after this.
As someone who works in industrial as IT, plants don’t change up like this suddenly. It’s likely this change has been in planning stages for a while.
That said - Cool that they are retraining staff instead of laying people off. Sad this is happening with physical media.
Sony's largest PlayStation disc plant has already started reassigning staff to make other products.
The site in Thalgau, Austria has invested €30 million on new equipment and will retrain staff to produce optical microlenses.

@sc0nesandc0ffee Let me rephrase that - gold has expansions but ultimate comes with the year 1 cosmetics + in game premium credits.
You can scoot by with gold.
Don't mind me, just dropping some urls here, no reason at all.
