My dad died. I called to make a therapist appointment and they are booked out 3 MONTHS.
No wonder, as a paramedic, we get so many psych calls.
This is nuts. We need more mental health resources in this country.
There's no rational reason other than greed for Novo Nordisk to charge $12,000 a year for Ozempic in the United States while that same exact drug can be purchased for just $2,000 in Canada & $750 in Germany. It's time for the pharmaceutical industry to stop ripping off Americans.
@shesbonky My mother's body didn't produce labor hormones. They tried inducing labor six times and never got more than a few cramps. Without c-section, neither my brother nor I would have been born.
13: Wasn't I born c-section?
ME: Yes. I had Placenta Previa. There wasn't another option.
13: My health teacher said C-sections are "unnatural". He said women never actually NEED them.
ME: Then he's a dumbass who shouldn't be teaching Health.
13: That's what I thought too.
I’ve been alive for more than 50 years. In all my life, I have never seen such a concerted, unified and unending effort by the mass media to pressure an incumbent president into forgoing a reelection bid.
Ugh. Every day, I hear:
"God made male & female. That's it!"
God created night and day, too...
But there is dawn, dusk, and about a million positions of the sun & let's not even start on all the presentations of the moon...
This simply is not so cut-and-dried.
Slavers used Christianity to try to “tame” the enslaved. To make them believe slavery was God’s will, rape and brutality were what the enslaved deserved.
European settlers called Indians "savage” because they didn't live the way Europeans did.
The indigenous culture was crushed. They were slaughtered and forced to relocate.
The United States committed atrocities against Africans, African Americans, and Native Americans in the name of Christianity.
There were lynching picnics. Souvenirs taken from mutilated Black bodies.
This is American history. Hiding it gives racists cover to recommit atrocities of the past. #FreshWords
When I was a little boy, the Japanese military attacked Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise attack, and thousands of U.S. servicemembers perished. As a nation, we were stunned. And we vowed to strike back. Revenge was understandably on everyone’s mind, including many Americans of Japanese descent who opposed the emperor and were peaceful and law-abiding U.S. citizens and residents.
In its zeal to exact that revenge, however, the U.S. government overreacted, out of fear and bigotry. They targeted everyone who happened to look like the people who had carried out the attack. Those of us who had done nothing wrong were forced to pay the consequences for the decisions of others far away and disconnected from us. We were interned for years, in open-air prisons, while America went off to fight Japan, Germany and Italy.
It’s so important that we carry the lessons of the past through to today. Merely because one group commits atrocities and acts with depravity does not mean vast hundreds of thousands or even millions of others should be lumped together with them and made to suffer. We must never paint with the brush of justice and retaliation too broadly, or the toll of human suffering will rise immeasurably.
@pAggie1962@GeorgeTakei What a vile response to such a thoughtful and provocative post from Takei. Who is suggesting concentration camps for gun owners? NO ONE. But your response to something so critically important speaks to the selfish self-absorption and obsession of gun owners. Shameful.
Reminder that Republicans, at this moment, are holding up the appointment of 300 senior Pentagon officials and the next Ambassador to Israel.
We also lack a Republican Speaker of the House to pass additional support for Israel.
All of these things might be useful right now.
There have been people justifying the weaponization of sexual violence in war and revolution all over my mentions because “it happens.” Fuck you. You can support a cause & condemn specific actions taken. Raping people is not liberation
We are not supporting Ukraine simply because we like the country.
This is the first real test of authoritarianism vs democracy since World War II.
Democracy must win for the sake of our own national security and global democracy.
That is why we must support Ukraine.
The right wing news media doesn't even talk about Trump selling classified documents. They talk about inner city teenagers shoplifting at Target because they want you scared and they want you angry. They certainly don't want you to know the truth about Donald Trump.
The media are first and foremost concerned, not about reporting the facts, but about warding off accusations of "liberal bias."
You see the false equivalence, bothsidesism, etc.
Here, they simply cannot let good news for Democrats stand as good news, lest "bias!".

Do you want to know what voter suppression looks like?
Apparently, while early voting is under way in Virginia, there was an “issue” that misclassified probation violations as felonies leading to an unknown number of eligible Virginians being removed from the voter rolls.
Every General Assembly seat is on the ballot meaning the outcome will determine party control of the Assembly, which is divided.
We see you, Glenn Youngkin.
