The idol of Murugan at the Palani Hill temple is not made of granite/marble/metal. It is the center of 1 of the strangest, highest-stakes material science experiments in ancient history.
According to ancient palm-leaf manuscripts, a legendary Tamil Siddhar (alchemist/scientist) named Bhogar anticipated a future era where humanity would be plagued by mysterious, deep-seated physical & mental illnesses (a clear nod to the friction of modern times).
Instead of writing a medical text, Bhogar selected 9 distinct, highly lethal mineral poisons (including specific forms of arsenic, mercury & sulfur) known as Navapashanam. Individually, a fraction of a mg of any of these minerals causes instant, agonizing death.
Using an obscure, lost thermodynamic process, Bhogar chemically locked & fused these 9 deadly poisons into a single, solid, glassy compound, sculpting it into the form of a lean, ascetic child Murugan (Dhandayuthapani).
The alchemical hack is brilliant: because the minerals are perfectly bound, the statue does not dissolve. However, when highly specific mediums like fresh milk/Panchamritam are poured over the idol during rituals, the liquid acts as a chemical conduit.
It skims the surface, absorbing micro-traces of the chemically neutralized minerals. For over a millennium, 1000s have consumed this liquid as a potent medicine, proving that the ancient master successfully converted absolute mortality into a cure.
परात्परां परमेश्वरीं तां परमोदारविभूतियुक्ताम्।परमात्मिकां परमां वन्दे महात्रिपुरसुन्दरीं ताम्॥
I bow to the Supreme Goddess Maha Tripurasundari, the higher than the highest transcendental reality, who possesses ultimate divine power and opulences and embodies the Supreme Soul.
Verse 51-54 Tripura Rahasya
Understand the nature of Self-knowledge with detachment and worship Maheśvarī, the inner strength, as your Guru teaches. With a bit of Her grace, you can find oneness with the Self that is equanimous with everything. Once you realize that everything else is just a reflection of that Shakti, which is actually yourself, and guided by a universal Guru, you can move through the world freely, just as I do, without doubt, fear, or disturbance.
When Shri lord Dattatreya says, "move around freely like me." He is describing the state of a Jivanmukta, someone liberated while still in a physical body. They are completely free from fear and doubt because they know the entire universe is simply a reflection of their own divine consciousness (Shakti).
