@jeffm1981 @WalkerBragman As far as I've read, the US federal government is not providing adequate support for "new anti-virals, next gen vaccines, and better treatments in development", nor improved ventilation. If you've got better sources that show that, pls share them.
The Census Bureau’s household pulse survey just released new #longcovid data, incl. questions about the impact of LC on day-to-day activities (!!). Today: 4.4M US adults — 25% of those with LC — have activities “limited a lot” by LC. (1/)
@sailorrooscout Would it reduce the efficacy of an upcoming Omicron booster in late fall/early winter for me to get a 4th dose now? I have 3 doses of Moderna and would get a 4th dose of Pfizer.
The use of high-quality masks (like N95/KN95 respirators) by patients, compared with surgical masks, substantially reduced Covid infections among nearly 4,000 health care workers

1. Will add more later when the transmission levels get updated, but @CDCgov has their new levels out.
55% of the US population lives in a county classified as high risk based on a HOSPITALIZATION-based measure.
By far the highest % in months.
How can you go from sequence of a novel virus to 2 vaccines with 95% efficacy and safety (>75,000 participants in RCT trials) in 10 months and not, in 2.5 years, go after pan-β-coronavirus and nasal vaccines with the same aggressive (OWS) template?
@JuliaRaifman @gregggonsalves @DLeonhardt Agree -- using national data at 2 time periods we found that in school settings teacher + student masking lowered COVID risk, and multiple mitigation strategies were key. Somehow that data seems to get forgotten.

Brookline looked at the data on cases in students and made the sensible and informed choice to reinstate masks for now. This sort of data-driven approach is to be applauded! I hope others will follow suit!
New in @JAMA_current: We find that more all-cause deaths occurred in the first 8 weeks of the Omicron wave in Massachusetts than in the 23 weeks of the Delta wave. Even if Omicron has a lower infection fatality rate, higher rates of spread = more deaths.

Despite all the arrogance of the West, we got Covid wrong. We are still getting Covid wrong.
Time to look East, at those thriving while "Living with Covid"
Japan: no lockdowns, no excess mortality, better economic performance, and more socialising...

It’s time to invest in next generation COVID vaccines that not only prevent severe disease but also block infection and transmission. It makes sense to induce mucosal immunity to fight a mucosal viral infection. My opinion in @nytimes today👇🏽

According to MA DPH, there were 7,403 COVID cases among kids age 5-19 in the past 2 weeks. But the number from DESE was 21,459.
Because of rapid/pooled tests that don't get to DPH and the fact that not all cases are reported to DESE, it's hard to know what the real number is.
