An open letter to @gamescom regarding exhibitor Infold Games / Papergames (Booth 9-A054) and their upcoming presence with Love and Deepspace:
As @gamescom prepares to welcome millions of gaming enthusiasts to Cologne, we strongly urge event organizers, international media, and attendees to look beyond the polished marketing and pay close attention to the severe corporate mismanagement surrounding Infold Games.
On June 22nd, Love And Deepspace announced Valko / Ao Yin (敖尹) as the 6th playable character. Immediately following the announcement, a toxic subset of the Mainland player base launched a coordinated campaign to destroy the character, resorting to overt racism (mocking his darker skin tone), xenophobia (calling him "foreign"), and homophobia. Malicious actors demanded the company explicitly confirm the characters' heterosexuality, and rather than remaining neutral or protecting inclusivity, Infold cowardly capitulated by confirming all characters are strictly straight, validating bigoted harassment.
When bigotry failed to stop the character, Infold initially stood their ground. On June 27th, the company released a statement reaffirming that "The development of Valko and his related content is part of the long-term content plan for Love and Deepspace."
In response, these toxic groups escalated their tactics, resorting to malicious historical bad-faith arguments (referencing Unit 731), weaponizing false claims regarding women's safety, spreading narrative lies (claiming he invaded the MC's home when they already knew each other), and launching physical and digital intimidation. Just three days later, on June 30th, Infold completely backtracked and canceled Valko's launch.
1. Harassers sent cow dung and funeral wreaths directly to the company’s headquarters.
2. Reports surfaced of attempted knife break-ins at company facilities.
3. Harassers continue to actively doxx pro-Valko players, threaten player safety, post graphic pictures of dead animals to mock pro-Valko supporters, and use massive bot farms to spread fake news.
While global and CN pro-Valko players spent two months creating fan art, raising money for charity, and keeping Valko’s name trending worldwide while demanding #BringValkoBack, corporate executives made the cowardly decision not to address their official statement caving to the bullies, keeping Ao Yin (敖尹) out of the game to appease violent harassers.
Infold has full capability and legal power to regulate this dangerous, toxic behavior and protect their community. Instead, they chose to empower harassers while treating global players with total disregard:
1. Rewarding Bigotry, Violence & Harassment: By caving to hate campaigns, funeral wreaths, doxxing, and physical threats, corporate leadership validated bigoted demands and proved that violent intimidation gets results, setting a dangerous precedent for the entire gaming industry.
2. Absolute Suppression of Global Consumers: Infold ignores our demands, refuses to address us, and treats global players purely as a cash machine to exploit.
3. Performative PR at International Expos: Setting up flashy booths and interactive showcases at @gamescom while actively evading an ongoing global boycott demonstrates an alarming disconnect between corporate PR and basic consumer respect.
We urge @gamescom attendees, press representatives, and industry creators to recognize the reality behind Booth 9-A054. Infold Games does not represent transparent, safe, or respectful developer-player relationships. The global community will continue to demand corporate accountability, safety for players, and transparency.
