He built the careers of The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift…
Then, at the top of the music industry, Charlie Walk lost it all.
Here’s what no one tells you about success, identity, and rebuilding from the ashes. 🧵
AppLovin is up 37% today & reached $175B market cap.
📈It's +1,000% in the past 1Y & +3000% in past 2Y
💥 They just announced 4Q24 earnings, here are my MAIN takeaways:
- CEO: this was the most foundational Q of the business
- APP won't break out revenue by vertical in ads just yet
- Confident their ad platform can service ANY business, NOT just mobile games & ecom
- Their ad product is focused on incrementality & performance. Drive actual results
- They estimate their ads TAM is 10M businesses
- Ad platform for ecom STILL in closed beta b/c their current systems & lack of full self-serve is unable to support the high demand
- Signed term sheet to sell their ENTIRE apps biz which only brought in 19% adjusted EBITDA, basically stated this was a distraction from their core biz
- Ads business cranking: 78% adjusted EBITDA margin
- CTV not that compelling for gaming & ecom (agree) b/c issues w/ capturing attention, breaking behavior, and measuring big screen impact on other screen purchase. BUT- claims to be focusing on CTV this year (IMO CTV won't work and doesn't jive with the performance play)
- Not ready to announce how many ecom advertisers are activated. I estimate low-mid 100's
- Was adamant about APP NOT stealing dollars from other ad platforms like Meta and Google. APP is designed to bring incremental performance. States that there's huge overlap in users on APP & social platforms, BUT the ad formats on APP are unique and attract attention from those who otherwise wouldn't have consumed the ad on social.
YES- agree entirely. Back to my point about the big diff between 100% and 25% thumb stop rate.
APP also praying Zuck doesn't get jealous and try to nuke APP's main user acquisition engine (Meta). This would be short sighted by Meta. I COULD see Meta eventually try to acquire APP, that would be massive.
- Only 20ppl on ecom GTM team. Impressive & takes pride in company being lean.
Refreshing to see this perspective in big tech.
- Same inventory for ecom as gaming ads (unified auction)
- Talked down Q1 as step down for ecom adverts
(2 less days & lower spend than Q4: fair)… only forecasting 4% QoQ bump.
Very conservative! I estimate easy double digit QoQ growth in ad revenue
This was the first time APP's CEO talked this deeply about ecom ads. It's clear that ecom is a HUGE focus and they plan to expand to many other verticals (and have already seen early success there).
$APP
With recent advancements in AI, it's more realistic than ever to start a DTC business that brings in $10,000/month in profit in under 60 Days.
The process is broken down into 6 main steps.
LONG THREAD 🧵
WATCH
Robert Kennedy Jr. on Israel:
**RFK JR.:** What I'm saying is that Hxmas is a criminal enterprise. Sure. Yes. And when you talk about solutions for the Palestinian people, the truth is, the Palestinian people are arguably the most pampered by international aid organizations in history.
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** But even before this war, 78% of people in Gaza said they didn’t have enough food to eat. Why do you think that is? Shouldn’t Israel bear some responsibility?
**RFK JR.:** Well, first of all, Israel has no obligation to support them. Israel built 3,000 greenhouses, gave them to Gaza as a gift, and even offered to rebuild the port to make Gaza the "Singapore of the West." But Hxmas rejected this. They didn’t want Israel’s money or ideas.
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** But why?
**RFK JR.:** Because Hxmas controls the aid that Gaza receives, which is more than 10 times the per capita aid given to Europe after the Marshall Plan. Gaza has received $8,300 per capita, while Europe was rebuilt with $621 per capita. But instead of investing that money in infrastructure, Hxmas steals it. The top five leaders of Hxmas are billionaires. According to Forbes, Ismail Haniyeh has $5 billion.
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** So, Bobby—
**RFK JR.:** Hold on, let me finish. It’s not Israel’s fault that Gaza is poverty-stricken. Gaza could have been one of the wealthiest places on the Mediterranean, but Hxmas chose a different path.
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** But Israel controls everything that comes in and goes out of Gaza. They have no control over their own territory.
**RFK JR.:** Krystal, why are you insisting on blaming Israel instead of blaming Hxmas?
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** I do blame Hxmas, but our tax dollars don’t fund them. They fund Netanyahu’s government, which uses bombs to target the population.
**RFK JR.:** Most of our tax dollars go to Israel’s defense systems, like the Iron Dome. For 16 years, Israel and the U.S. have spent huge amounts of money trying to avoid a ground invasion of Gaza while Hxmas fires 2,000 rockets a year and sends suicide bombers. Israel has had to "mow the lawn" five times, meaning they’ve gone into Gaza, signed peace agreements with Hxmas, and every time, Hxmas violated them.
**BREAKING POINT INTERVIEWER:** But Israel is also killing Palestinians in the West Bank.
**RFK JR.:** If Mexico attacked us and we built a fence to protect ourselves, would you blame us for retaliating against Mexico? It feels like you’re always blaming Israel instead of holding Hxmas accountable for the conflict.
I caved.

Research & Write Landing Page Copy in < 60sec:
Has anyone been playing with custom GPTs?
Watch me build landing page copy in less than 1 min for @iamshackelford & @AaronJNosbisch's brand BRĒZ.
Few weeks ago OpenAI released this feature.
Train your own GPT to
specialize in & perform any given task.
Wanted to share a recent one we made at @avenuez_network ⤵️
"5 Reasons Why" Landing Page template.
This has made our process 90% more efficient.
This is game-changing for any industry.
Especially those in digital marketing.
If you find yourself repeating the same tasks weekly,
you should really build your own GPT for it.
It may not be perfect at first, but your GPT will learn & improve over time as it gets "smarter."
TLDR: You are ONLY as effective as the tools at your disposal.
80%+ of consumers say that brand familiarity makes them more likely to buy from a social media ad‼️
Well, you may ask, how do I get consumers familiar w/ my brand? Read on...
Creative, media buying, CRO, yada yada will only take you so far. It's noisy on social.
What's your brand doing for generating FAMILIARITY?
Familiarity ≠ someone seeing your ad.
Familiarity = seeing, feeling, wearing/trying it.
Where does your target market hang out?
Find out how to get in front of them IN PERSON...
My take is that EVENTS are
the absolute most effective way to do so.
It's literally shooting fish in a barrel.
Think it through.
Activate at events centered around your brand's niche.
Make a list of these events.
Activate there or give away free merch.
Measure it.
Brand awareness & customer acquisition
are blended like never before.
Not only acquisition from the event directly,
but could be acquisition from a social media ad
down the road that stemmed from the consumer remembering your brand from the event
they went to months ago.
Everyone always asks: how can I scale my brand?
My answer is always that the biggest levers are OUTSIDE of the ad accounts.
How to acquire high LTV customers FOR FREE:
10 days ago I had no idea what @TLFApparel was..
until I went to a "Wellness Wonderland" event last weekend.
TLF gave each person in attendance
1 free short & 1 free shirt (w/ logos)
to wear during a HIIT workout class in a beautiful waterfront mansion in Miami Beach.
(Brand Awareness trigger #1)
Everyone wore them.
Photographers were there.
It was an impressive event that hosted
TLF's ideal customer:
young, fit professionals who enjoyed working out on a Saturday morning.
People were posting IG stories, TikToks, etc
of this cool exclusive event they were at,
ofc with the gear on.
(Brand Awareness trigger #2)
After the event, everyone got professional pics
(which of course they proceeded to post
on social & tag people and brands that were in attendance)...
(Brand Awareness trigger #3)
After wearing my new free gear for a workout,
I realized how much I loved it.
Fit great, felt great, looked great.
Less than 24 hours later,
I proceeded to place a $150 order.
(CONVERSION!)
It was my first (of many) TLF orders.
Fast forward 3 days later,
I invited TLF to activate at the
@avenuez_network DTC x Tech Art Basel event
where attendees would be playing Padel & doing Yoga.
They graciously accepted in short notice
& were at our event, where they proceeded to hand out even more free gear.
Same playbook as the event a few days prior.
Several ppl already told me they purchased
even more gear from TLF after
receiving their first free set a mere 4 days ago.
(2nd Batch of CONVERSIONS!)
So after that 1 simple Wellness Wonderland event:
✅TLF acquired me as a high LTV customer
✅ TLF did another event (hosted by me) days later
✅ TLF acquired even more high LTV customers
✅ TLF has now appeared in hundreds of photos on social w/ their brand tagged (FREE incremental impressions)
The Cost?
1 Pair of Shorts & 1 Shirt.
How many new customers & LTV did TLF generate from this 1 Pair of Shorts & Shirt?
We'll never know, but their bank account will.
This also highlights that no attribution solution is an exact science.
Explain this customer journey!
Many inputs are NOT trackable & deterministic. @PrescientAI come up with a solve for this, it'll become a growing need.
Events are an untapped opportunity for brands.
Brand Awareness & Conversion are blurred like never before.
Brands, think through your 2024 event strategy.
If you're looking to activate at events in 2024,
📩DM me and we'll get you in the queue for our next one.

This is pathetic and abhorrent.
How antisemitism has gotten to this level is baffling.
With weak, spineless leaders of renowned institutions tolerating it, things will only get worse.
@Penn & @Harvard is this your official stance?
Great to hear directly from the presidents of @MIT@penn and @Harvard so that we know from their own mouths that it’s unsafe to send our children to their universities.
Only 1 week away‼️ Don't forget to register.
