New paper out today!!
We know warming speeds up eDNA removal in lakes and ponds, but what about streams and rivers where physical removal may obscure the impact of decay?

This difference meant there was an increase in the proportion of the eDNA sample made up of small particles as we moved "downstream". More evidence that eDNA removal in streams is an interplay of physical and biotic factors. And this can be influenced by temp!

So what did we find?
At higher temps, small eDNA particles (0.2–1.0 μm), were removed faster than at lower temps, while removal rates were consistent across temps for larger eDNA particles (>1.0 μm).
The scientific road can be a rocky one! If you're struggling with setbacks in your research, consider submitting an abstract for SFS 2025 for the session "From Dead Ends to Discovery: Embracing Failure as a Pathway to Scientific Progress." Organized by me and @Fish_finatic!
Abstracts are due on January 26th and can be submitted here: https://t.co/HBJMGsK2DR. If you are a student or early-career scientist who could use funds for travel, consider also applying for an SFS endowment award here: https://t.co/vBt9uOLdzj
Official posting for our NSF-funded DISTANCe project!
Want to do stream research in streams across the CONUS? Interested in stream eDNA transport? Excited about collaboration & team science? Join our team!
@ShogrenLab
Welp… the @ShogrenLab is looking for a PhD student for a 5-yr NSF project on eDNA transport at NEON wadeable streams! Start date in January or August 2025 😊 Reach out via email if interested!
In February, grad students across IN, including many from GLOBES, attended the Annual Indiana Science Communication Day (INSciCommDay) to share their work with state legislators from the Senate and the House, as well as any interested community members https://t.co/7RySXF9Dfr
It is approaching so quickly!
There is still time to request me a link in private if you wish to learn a little about the ecology of eDNA 🧬 and eProteins.
I am happy to announce that I will be defending my PhD on April 4th at 1 PM CST! 📚
If you wish to attend and hear a little about eDNA 🧬and eProteins🌽, drop me a DM for the Zoom link and details!
Next step: Get a job!
