🇪🇺 🇷🇺 There’s been a change in how European governments speak about the Russian threat. Within 48 hours, a wave of statements and mobilization across NATO’s eastern flank has coalesced into a clear and worrying pattern.
🇵🇱 Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says intelligence shared by Poland, Ukraine and NATO indicates Russia could eventually conduct drone or missile attacks against countries supporting Ukraine while attempting to portray them as accidents.
🇫🇷 In Paris, Emmanuel Macron emerged from a three-hour meeting with France's intelligence chiefs and political leaders warning that the Russian hybrid threat has intensified. France is reinforcing protection of critical infrastructure and defense-production sites.
🇩🇪 Those warnings are not emerging in a vacuum. Germany has formally attributed the attempted explosive-drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russia, with subsequent investigations reportedly tracing the operation toward Russian military intelligence. German authorities are also investigating a professionally prepared weapons cache discovered in woodland near Berlin, two handguns and ammunition that officials say were intended for future attacks, including possible links to a foreign intelligence service.
🇪🇪 Further north, Estonia's security cabinet is preparing for another contingency: a possible Russian general mobilization. Prime Minister Kristen Michal says such a move could change Estonia's threat assessment sufficiently for Tallinn to close its border with Russia immediately.
🇱🇹 Lithuania, meanwhile, has detailed evacuation planning for a major military emergency. One of the evacuation routes from Vilnius leads toward Poland, where authorities in Podlaskie are preparing the region to serve as a transit corridor for evacuees from the Baltic states.
That planning predates this week's warnings and should not be interpreted as evidence that an attack is believed to be imminent.
But the regional context has deteriorated.
🇧🇾 Belarus is currently conducting military exercises near the Polish and Lithuanian borders, including areas around the strategically critical Suwałki Gap.
And earlier this week, a NATO fighter shot down a suspected Russian attack drone after it entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus.
None of this establishes that European governments expect a Russian attack in the immediate future. What it does show is something more concrete: governments from Warsaw to Paris to Tallinn are publicly preparing their populations and institutions for contingencies that until recently largely remained inside military planning documents.
Mans Best Response Ever After Being Rejected By The Military
I’m over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I’m too old to track down terrorists. You can’t be older than 42 to join the military. They’ve got this whole thing backwards.
Instead of sending 18-year-olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn’t be able to join a military until you’re at least 35.
For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every ten seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a month, leaving us more than 280,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.
Young guys haven’t lived long enough to be cranky and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. My back hurts! I can’t sleep, I’m tired and hungry. We’re bad tempered and impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.
An 18-year-old doesn’t even like to get up before 10 am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I’m tired and can’t sleep and since I’m already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.
If captured, we couldn’t spill the beans because we’d forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank and serial number would be a real brainteaser.
Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We’re used to getting screamed and yelled at and we’re used to soft food. We’ve also developed an appreciation for guns. We’ve been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.
They could tighten up on the obstacle course, however. I’ve been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any push-ups after completing basic training.
Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy too. I’ve never seen anyone out run a bullet.
An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He’s still learning to shave or to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn’t figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.
These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm’s way.
Let us old guys track down those terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million hacked off old farts with bad attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.
Hey!! How about recruiting women over 50 in menopause! You think men have attitudes? Ohhhhh my goodness!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They’ll have it secured the first night!

🚨🇬🇧THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW TELLING BRITISH FAMILIES TO PREPARE
This is perhaps the most important part of my investigation.
The Government isn't only preparing ministers.
It isn't only preparing the military.
It isn't only preparing civil servants.
It is increasingly encouraging ordinary British households to prepare as well.
Food.
Water.
Medication.
Torches and batteries.
Emergency communications.
First aid.
A household emergency plan.
And now the mainstream press is reporting on the national resilience campaign that I documented in my investigation.
This isn't about panic buying.
In fact, the Government's own advice says:
“Don't buy everything at once.”
Prepare gradually. Prepare responsibly.
Watch this short extract from my investigation.
DON'T BE SCARED. BE PREPARED.
Spanish speaking countries have two options and only two
Option one: start acting like a bloc. I'm not talking about becoming one single country, or building a new empire; this is not about nobody ruling anybody
But we could have separate sovereign states that actually coordinate. Trade, capital, universities, media, movement of people...
Option two: irrelevance, permanently
Because look at what we have right now
Spain is a mid-sized member of a union where the real decisions get made in Berlin and Brussels. Spain shows up to be informed of the outcome, and keeps being treated as the holiday resort of Europe
Latin America has been in Washington's back garden for over a century and gets treated accordingly. Sometimes gently... but most often not
600 million people. The second most spoken native language on earth. The same legal tradition, the same religion, the same humour, the same way of arguing at a dinner table...
And collectively we carry less weight in the world than one country of 80 million that speaks German
That isn't bad luck but a choice we keep making every decade
Every empire that has ever dealt with us understood the thing we refuse to admit: twenty weak countries that don't talk to each other are far easier to manage than one bloc that does
Neither Brussels nor Washington wants this to happen
That should tell you enough about whether it's a good idea

@andr_benites@whatdafaqshow Wow.
