W⚽️ is excited to announce their first wave of recruits for the 2024 season with the addition of 4 midfielders from BC!

Malala Rabesoa from North Vancouver joins the Heat from Burnaby FC where she won the 2023 Canadian U17 National Championship and was a member of the FTF All-Star starting 11.

Kaitlan Cerney from Coquitlam comes to UBCO from TSS Rovers and Premier Soccer Academy. With her U17 team she won the Coastal and Provincial Cup and was the 2023 Dana Cup silver medalist.

Sophia Eiley from Victoria joins the Heat from Gorge FC and VI Wave 05. She won the AA Provincial Championship with St. Michaels University School and was a reserve player with Highlanders FC of League 1 BC.

Simran Heir from Richmond comes to UBCO from Coastal FC and has previously been selected for the BC provincial program identification.

W⚽️ is thrilled to announce their second wave of recruits for the 2024 season with four new additions from Alberta!

Avery Shafer, a midfielder from Calgary, joins the Heat from Calgary Blizzard SC where she won silver at the 2023 Canadian U17 Championship and was named to the all-star starting 11 following the event. She also won the 2023 U17 provincial championship and the 2022 San Diego Surf Cup.

Joining Shafer from the Calgary Blizzard is teammate Braxtyn Catana, a fullback with the Blizzard. Along with her national silver medal and provincial championship in 2023, she’s also been a member of the Whitecaps Elite REX team from 2021 to 2023.

Maya Letellier from South West United SC in Calgary joins the Heat as a defender. She won gold at the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Nova Scotia as a member of Team Alberta, scoring 3 goals, including 1 in the gold medal match.

Leila Burton is a defender from Edmonton who played her club soccer with Futbol United. She helped her team finish first at Schwan’s USA Cup and competed in the Alberta Summer Games.

True story:
Today I went to get my eyes checked after spending 18 years outside at 7’000 feet in Flagstaff coaching.
Optometrist comes in to talk about my tests.
I look at her and say “you look familiar” she replies “so do you”. Then she figures it out. “Andre from NAU Soccer”
Recruited her 8+ years ago
I asked her where she ended up and what her experience was like and the response is what I want people to pay attention to:
“The soccer was alright. But I would not change where I went for anything in the world. I loved my teammates who are now my best friends, and I loved the school and my experience there”.
That is what is more typical in the world of college athletics. Athletics was ok, she became a doctor, and had an amazing group of friends and a great time at school.
Those are all the right things about college athletics.

U SPORTS WSOC: Stefanie Young scored again for the UBC Okanagan Heat, her U SPORTS-leading 13th goal of the season.

UBCO wins 2-1 vs UFV, bringing them to fourth in the Canada West Pacific Division on 20 points.

UFV a potential playoff opponent too.

@tevernden11 We are walking a tightrope with the girls every season.
They are physically & mentally exhausted after a game weekend, meaning the first session back is always a slower pace, then add on top their schooling on the Monday & life in general. Something definitely needs to change…

@tevernden11 Couldn’t agree more! Also promotes slow football, which is never fun to watch!
I believe our head coach even suggested splitting the season in half. Playing 1 game per week, 6 games in Autumn/early winter, 6 games after Christmas. Injury rate would decrease rapidly.
