My absolute favorite piece of Macron trivia is that he video called into 2025 Yugioh Worlds to flex his OG Blue Eyes in a waifu sleeve and then bounced
Back when I was a lawyer I would sometimes meet religious Jewish male lawyers who would refuse to shake hands with me and other women. I honestly found it really off-putting and offensive and so did many others. It’s certainly their right to refuse a handshake. But other people are also gonna have reactions when there is an entire category of people you refuse to touch. And “it’s their religion” may be true, and again they have a right to refuse a handshake, but it’s also really sexist and both of those things can be true.
My 2nd fav Talmud story:
If a pigeon is found within 50 cubits of a coop, its the owners, else its the finders
One day, Rabbi Yirmiyah asks “if one foot is within the 50 cubits and one is outside, whom does it belong?”
The rabbis immediately expelled Yirmiyah for asking this.
No one could have predicted this
“Jersey City was one of the busiest apartment-construction markets in the entire New York metro region, adding thousands of new units as developers chased the post-pandemic demand surge. When all that inventory came online at once, landlords had to compete on price to fill the units, which pulled rents down from their 2024 peak. The building boom is why renters are getting a break now."
Do you understand the aura and skill it takes to order in French, in Paris, and have the waiter not immediately revert to English?
This is like when Ronaldinho had the Bernabeu on its feet applauding him.
Truly the greatest to ever do it.
“Supermarket pricing is a modern miracle. In 2001, the typical household spent £80.90 a week on food, adjusted for inflation, according to the ONS. By 2024, the latest year available, that bill was £70.50.”
Good piece by Tom.
I know this is the cheesiest sentiment in the world, but honestly believe that if you have one person in your life who cares about you and who worries about you and looks forward to seeing you, you're richer than Elon Musk.
FDR called his audio press releases "fireside chats" and this was so effective that 90 years later people still imagine them as cozy and interactive in some way.
