The work-life balance is for a lot of us a work-life blur. That space of pure rest or pure play has been eroded by the eternal half-work of 24/7 social media, weekend emails, living rooms as meeting rooms, and the phones in our pockets. So important to build back that space.

NHS Manager: Our staff have high levels of stress and burnout. What can we do about this?
Me: How about improving their working environment and reducing the intensity of their work?
NHS Manager: We will organise a Wellness Seminar they can attend in their own time instead.
me before the pandemic: I can do a full day of work and go for drinks and dinner after and then do 4 more full days of work with events and nights out on the weekend and maybe even a workout in the week
me now: if I move I will need to sleep for 14 hours to recover
I personally don’t know anyone with a mental illness that likes or finds any benefit from all of these mental health awareness days/weeks/months. We are very aware, just fund services and train staff efficiently.
We have no control over who people think we are. So don’t worry. If they want to hate a fictional version of you that lives in their mind, let them. Don’t drain yourself trying to be understood by people who insist on not understanding you. Keep your cup full. Go to the kindness.
Boundaries aren’t a punishment or a consequence. They are where you end, and I begin; the distance needed for safety. They allow true intimacy. Being limitless can sound appealing but is (1) impossible, limits undeniably exist, and (2) quite terrifying.
I'm so tired of emails, slacks, zooms, phone calls, etc. I just want to walk into someone's office unannounced, plop down, ask them a question, brainstorm on something unrelated, chit chat for a while, then walk out completely forgetting why I stopped by in the first place.
