Earlier this month we launched “Sofia Crespo x Anna Ridler: A Field of Collaboration” at HALLEN07. Published by @HatjeCantz, the publication is the first monograph on Sofia Crespo (@soficrespo91) and Anna Ridler (@annaridler), commissioned and developed as part of their 2025 Artist of the Year.
One of the real pleasures of this project: listening to @soficrespo91 and @annaridler in conversation with @Lucy2Scribbles this afternoon, unpacking the five collaborations behind A Field of Collaboration. Thank you for a wonderful discussion and thank you @HatjeCantz for the beautiful book.

The vanishing flora of the Swiss Alps, regrown by a machine.

on 83 Seeds from a Vanishing Mountain (2023) by Sofia Crespo (@soficrespo91) & Anna Ridler (@annaridler) – a work that turns to AI not to record eighty-three endangered Alpine species, but to imagine what they might yet become, holding extinction and invention in the same image. The work also examines fragmentation as a condition of digital existence.
On view at HALLEN 07, 5–13 September, Berlin.

Join us for the launch of A Field of Collaboration, the new monograph on Sofia Crespo (@soficrespo91) and Anna Ridler (@annaridler).
Published by @HatjeCantz and edited by Charlotte Kent (@Lucy2Scribbles), the book gathers the artists' five joint projects from 2023–2025 for the first time, alongside essays by Tega Brain, Doreen Ríos, Masako Shiba and Catherine Troiano, an interview by Nina Roehrs, and extensive documentation of their process. Together they trace how Crespo and Ridler bridge machine learning with photographic practice, botanical study and other tactile traditions — moving beyond the digital sublime toward a profound attentiveness to the contemporary moment.

A generative program, animated GIFs on political front pages, and AI-conjured Alpine flora — three practices, one presentation.
Arab Bank Switzerland makes its @BerlinArtWeek debut at HALLEN 07, bringing together three works that each think through technology, image and data in a different way:
▪️ Andreas Gysin (@andreasgysin) — Lattice (2025)
▪️ Olia Lialina — Online Newspapers: Postfactual Edition – Trump, Putin, Kim (2017–2018)
▪️ Anna Ridler (@annaridler) & Sofia Crespo (@soficrespo91) — 83 Seeds from a Vanishing Mountain (2023)
Curated by Nina Roehrs.
The presentation also marks the launch of a new monograph on Ridler & Crespo — ABS's 2025 Artist of the Year recipients. The book will be launched on 11 September at 5pm at HALLEN, in front of the artists' work, with a panel discussion moderated by Charlotte Kent, followed by a book signing with the artists.

In November 2023 Nguyen Wahed presented Sofia Crespo & Anna Ridler’s second collaboration, ’83 seeds from a vanishing mountain,’ at Paris Photo fair.
The 25 digital tiles accompanying this unique cyanotype installation were later exhibited as part of ‘Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms’ at the Toledo Museum of Art, curated by Julia Kaganskiy.
It has been our pleasure to work with both artists in the years since, including presenting their third collaborative work,’ Snapshots: Orchids,’ in London in 2023, and their fifth collaboration, '3.31424e+126 : clematis armandii, 2025', at Art Brussels in 2025.

Her creatures look like they were lifted from a deep sea trench, except no net could catch them. They have never existed. A thread on why that matters. 🧵
Sofia Crespo (@soficrespo91) and Anna Ridler (@annaridler) explore how artificial intelligence can deepen our understanding of the natural world. Their collaborative practice combines botany, photography, and machine learning to imagine new relationships between technology and living systems.
In 83 Seeds from a Vanishing Mountain, the artists trained AI on 83 endangered plant species native to the Swiss Alps. Rather than documenting these flowers as they exist today, they used generative systems to imagine how they might adapt and evolve in response to climate change. The resulting bouquet is both familiar and uncanny, inviting us to consider AI not simply as a tool for generating images, but as a medium for exploring biodiversity, loss, and ecological change.
Their work was part of our exhibition Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms.
.@soficrespo91 introduces Critically Extant
Last year we launched Critically Extant. During the exhibition in London, we sat down with Sofia to talk about the ideas behind the project, the process of working with endangered species data, and what it means to make art about what's disappearing.
↓ Here's a short context about the collection ↓
Critically Extant looks at how little documentation exists for species that are critically endangered. Sofia trained generative models on millions of open source images covering close to ten thousand species. She then used these models to generate visual representations of species with little or no presence online, particularly on social media. Where data was scarce, the resulting images bear little resemblance to the species they depict. That gap is part of the project's point: it traces the edges of what we know and asks how our digital spaces can build a more balanced picture of the natural world.
The project was first presented as an Instagram exhibition, placing these images inside the same feeds where so many species remain invisible. Critically Extant was released by Fellowship in collaboration with Nguyen Wahed Gallery and ARTXCODE.

🌱 The species in Critically Extant by @soficrespo91 🌱
In Critically Extant, Sofia trained models on millions of open-source nature photos covering ~10 000 species.
First shown as some kind of Instagram exhibition, the work tests whether endangered life can slip into our daily scroll and spark "real-world" care.
The project invites us to build better feedback loops between the digital and the wild: notice, share, and act before these creatures vanish completely.
↓ Below are some of the species featured in the collection, with a few facts about each:

Nordic Interface
The Lumen Prize, in collaboration with @kunstsilo, is proud to announce the launch of: Nordic Interface, a new initiative supporting the development of an ambitious new commission by a Nordic artist through mentorship, production support, public programming, and a site-specific commission at Kunstsilo.
Building on our long-standing partnership, the program provides selected Nordic artists with mentorship from an international network of experts, dedicated production support, and the opportunity to premiere a new work in Kunstsilo’s Silohall during The Lumen Prize Awards Ceremony weekend in November.
For the inaugural edition, we’re thrilled to announce @entangledothers as the first artists selected for the program. Their practice explores the complex entanglements between artificial intelligence and biological systems, asking how technology shapes our understanding of the more-than-human world.
More details to follow shortly.
