2 things can be true! Yes the 90s anime can be more male gazey & naoko didn’t like it, but it still is a fantastic adaptation of the manga for tv. I LOVE the manga but it’s very flawed in pacing/plot/character & an anime adaptation needs to flesh it out, crystal showed us that😭

you will never get me to say anything bad about the 90s sailor moon anime. i don't care that sensei didn't like it and that it's not faithful. the manga feels like a sci-fi/fantasy novel, ethereal and airy, whereas the 90s anime was so full of goofy everyday vim and vigor.
