We're pleased to welcome Chris Wolff as @WHO Director of Polio Eradication and Chair of the GPEI Strategy Committee.
With decades of experience across polio eradication, immunization and global health, Chris helped shape some of the programme’s most significant achievements, and rejoins WHO at a pivotal moment for global eradication efforts.
In Chris's words, "We know what it will take to #EndPolio. Global success now depends on operational excellence and sustained political commitment to finish polio – and pivot to a sustainable polio-free world."

Every conversation can bring us one step closer to a polio-free Pakistan.
Ahead of the September Sub-National Immunization Days (SNID), Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Ms Ayesha Raza Farooq, brought together health journalists from across Pakistan at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) to discuss the fight against polio and the critical role of media in turning awareness into action.
From 21–27 September, frontline workers will reach more than 31 million children across 115 high-risk districts. Behind this effort are not only the teams going door to door, but also the voices that help build trust, address concerns and encourage families to protect their children.
Every conversation matters. Every door matters. Every child matters.
Together, let’s keep the conversation going, build trust in vaccination and help ensure every child is protected.

Ahead of the upcoming polio vaccination campaign, the National Task Force for Polio Eradication met to review preparations and called for strong government leadership and collective action to reach every eligible child.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, chaired the meeting on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, formally inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children. He urged officials to lead from the front and engage directly with communities and parents to strengthen vaccine acceptance.
The meeting was attended virtually by Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal and the Provincial Chief Secretaries. In person, it was attended by Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication; Lt. General Kashif Nazir, Engineer-in-Chief; Dr. Muhammad Fakhre Alam Irfan, Federal Secretary for Health; Muhammad Anwaar-ul-Haq, National Coordinator for Polio Eradication; and members of the National Polio Core Team.
From 21–27 September 2026, polio teams will reach 31 million children under five across 115 districts, with more than 273,000 frontline workers mobilized for the campaign.
When polio teams visit your home, welcome them and make sure every child under five receives the polio vaccine.
Every dose protects. Every child matters. Together, we can end polio.

I recently joined the @TDRnews#GlobalHealthMatters podcast to discuss what it takes to #EndPolio, and why the final mile demands even greater resolve.
Reaching zero polio is about equity. Every child matters. Every community is important. Every village must be reached.
Our goal is clear. The challenges are real, but our conviction remains steadfast. We remain determined to keep finding solutions whenever and wherever the challenges are complex.
We are working with communities and local leaders to reach every child. We are walking every step of the way with @Rotary and Rotarians everywhere. We have come extraordinarily far. Now is the time to sustain our collective commitment and finish the job for every child, everywhere.

It was a great opportunity to accompany Joint Secretary Immunisation, Mr. Anwar, during visit to northern Sindh.
We witnessed strong commitment of government, partners, & communities. I admire the resilience of health systems & workers serving in these far-flung areas.
National Coordinator Muhammad Anwaar- ul -Haq, accompanied by National and Provincial Emergency Operations Centre teams, visited Khairpur and Larkana to review ongoing fIPV and OPV campaign activities under PEOC Sindh’s Special Investigation Plan.
The delegation held high-level advocacy meetings with the Commissioner Sukkur and Deputy Commissioners and conducted field visits to assess campaign implementation, understand ground realities and identify operational gaps requiring focused attention and timely corrective action.
The visit reaffirmed the programme’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making, strengthened accountability and high-quality campaign implementation to protect every child from polio.

#Somalia is demonstrating what is possible when innovation, strong partnerships and accountability come together. We are proud to support the #polio vaccination campaign in #Kahda, #Daynile and #Garasbaley districts in #Banaadir region, designed to increase the reach of more children in urban areas with polio vaccines through improved microplanning and deeper community engagement.
By strengthening links between communities and health facilities, this approach can help close immunity gaps and provide a model for reaching children in high-risk areas.
Together, we can protect every child everywhere children against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases. Together we can deliver health services to every community everywhere.

When @Rotary first dreamed of a polio-free world, we knew we couldn't do it alone. Thanks to our members and #GPEI partners, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9%.

Every breakthrough begins with hope. EBO-PEP—the first clinical trial evaluating post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with obeldesivir for #Ebola disease to Bundibugyo virus is launched. If effective among high-risk contacts after exposure, this could mark a major step forward in Ebola BVD prevention.
We thank @inrb_kinshasa, @agenceANRS and ALIMA for their leadership and partnership on this important trial. @WHO will continue to support.

Congratulations to Japan and WHO on the opening of the WHO Universal Health Care (UHC) Knowledge Hub in Tokyo.
Japan has long championed #UHC and efforts to #EndPolio. As countries move toward UHC, part of that journey is protecting the gains of polio eradication. The surveillance, laboratories, workforce and community networks built for polio are valuable public health assets that strengthen primary health care and help deliver #HealthForAll.
To #EndPolio, we depend on those working closest to communities.
During the Polio Oversight Board mission to Pakistan, leaders met with women frontline workers whose determination and courage help ensure that every child is protected.
Thank you @HananBalkhy, @AyeshaRaza13 and all GPEI Gender Champions for championing the women at the heart of this effort. Investing in women strengthens communities, advances equality and helps deliver #HealthForAll.
Last week, @WHO teams personally examined two children affected by paralytic polio in Pakistan.
Poliovirus is preventable, & we are determined to continue to use medical science & vaccines, which are safe & effective, until we protect every child.
Let’s #EndPolio
