As members of the Polio Oversight Board on mission to Afganistan, we met with members of the diplomatic community to discuss what it will take to eradicate polio and strengthen health for the Afghan people.

Our discussions reinforced an important reality: while investments in polio do far more than just stop one disease, more efforts are needed to strengthen routine immunization, disease surveillance, primary health care and the delivery of essential health services, creating healthier, more resilient communities while advancing regional health security.

Protecting the gains on polio eradication and advancing on reaching the last mile, however, requires continued engagement and humanitarian support.

So, as head of the delegation, I thank our partners for their longstanding commitment and support to the people of Afghanistan.

Together, through coordinated action and sustained investment, we can finish the job, protect decades of progress and ensure every child has the opportunity to grow-up healthy.
