"I have never encountered any children in any group who are not geniuses. There is no mystery on how to teach them. The first thing you do is treat them like human beings and the second thing you do is love them." - Dr. Asa Hilliard
@cjcris23@A2schools I'm not surprised. It was a mandatory pd on identity during pd week at the start of the school year last year. I think it being rushed, not reinforced, and people having it on in the background while setting up their rooms (no shade there) were contributing factors for sure.
@EyesOnA2r2 All of this. We don't need anymore people in positions of power who will contiue to support white supremacist, colonized systems that continue to harm and gatekeep kids. "Learning loss", "achievement gaps" and standardized testing are all 🚩🚩🚩🚩
the "promise" of reform, reinforced by constant and consistent violence, keeps us entrapped in the colonial, patriarchal, white supremacist relationship that is "Protection" under the law. only abolition will save us.

Because mental health is so critical for student performance, next year we are rolling out an additional set of standardized assessments that will evaluate students’ social emotional aptitude.
These assessments will provide invaluable data regarding stressors in students’ lives.
Or we could acknowledge that having virtual options includes more parents and caregivers. Broader access. More equitable. Not all parents are college professors with flexible schedules. Being able to zoom in to read on a lunch break at their job creates more opportunities.
EDUCATORS and LIBRARIANS: I’m giving away 100 copies of the three books in my EngiNerds series of Middle Grade novels, half here and half on Instagram.
To enter to win them here: RT this tweet + follow me!

Today and everyday is a good day to talk about ed history and our current realities, to hold our schools (not our Black families) accountable for "involvement".
As a district we need to change the way we approach NAAPID. The focus needs to be on why this system hasn't/isn't a welcoming place for our Black families and changeing that. We really need to unpack what being "involved" means outside of the white gaze. #naapid22

Prior to COVID, my work was on maternal mortality. About 700 birthing people die each year. The federal gov dedicated $100 mill to address this. We have a campaign- chasing zero, with a goal of eliminating maternal death.
When I hear "only 800 kids have died of COVID" or
@cjcris23 Right. They sit with different people at lunch, the classroom and all their specials. Which was never preventative in itself but at least we were contact tracing in all those places. Ugh.
