@Laynee_Student We also need to understand that just because someone doesn't have a lot of money doesn't make them a bad parent. We need to make sure we aren't putting kids into care that don't need to be. Being removed from your home is a traumatic experience that shouldn't be taken lightly.
Foster care is supposed to be a temporary placement for a child to be safe until it is either safe to return to their birth family or a permanent placement needs to be found with kin, current foster parents, or an adoptive family. Parents can be poor and safe!

@JimenaCarreon23@LmswJohnson Adoptive parents can be found through matching, but they can also be the foster child's current foster parents. Even if you have a biological child doesn't mean you will have anything in common with them. I personally believe there is much more to being a parent.
As an adoptive parent, CPS adoption is extremely close to my heart. It is also important to remember while adoption is beautiful, it is also trauma. Adoption is only possible after birth parents have lost or relinquished their parental rights.

@alexis_mccue I believe the entire sex education in schools needs to be revised. We need to stop just preaching abstinence and actually teach birth control and contraception.
Teen pregnancy is a life altering event. No matter what decision they make it will follow them: adoption, abortion, or raising the baby. It is hard enough being a teenager being in school, then adding a baby on top of that makes it even harder.

@BSWCorrineCagle@LmswJohnson Yes, play therapy can be very helpful to children have experienced trauma through abuse and/or neglect. Children often play using real life experiences.
Childhood trauma can have impacts far beyond childhood. Children who experience neglect and abuse are at greater risk for health problems in the future. Also, these things don't only happen in poorer neighborhoods.

@CharidethG Abuse and neglect can also make it to where a child is in constant fight or flight mode, which keeps the child from being able to heal and move forward.
Abuse and neglect early on in a child's development can be detrimental. As an adoptive mom I have witnessed firsthand what abuse and neglect can do to a child's development. Speech delays, physical delays, and behavioral issues that are long lasting. #TarletonCWF22EJ
@MaryAbagail@healthvideos Drugs are easily accessible to our children, and because of that we need to pay close attention for any signs that our children could be showing. We also need to have the conversations with our children instead of sheltering them from it.
With teen addiction becoming more common, we need to pay close attention to common signs. Some signs of drug use are mood swings, loss of interest in activities, stealing, and changes in sleep and/or appetite.

@MaryAbagail I believe that the right idea is there to help families who are struggling. Unfortunately, I do believe that there is a lot of revision that needs to be done in order to make the most of these services.
One way that we can help to prevent child abuse is by helping to eliminate poverty. People who are living in poverty have the stress of having enough money to support their families.

@JimenaCarreon23@LmswJohnson#TarletonCWF22EJ I agree, prevention is vital to help families. I also believe that part of prevention is making sure that families have the resources they need to be successful such as mental health resources, food resources, among other things to help lower income families.
Reporting suspected abuse and neglect. As a former foster parent, I was a mandated reporter. Reporting is something that needs to be taken seriously, if you suspect abuse report it. There are different types of abuse and different types of neglect. #TarletonCWF22EJ
