Let me tell you about naked mole rats. This live underground throughout their lives. They eat root, tubers and bulbs underground without leaving their burrow. When they come across a tuber that's big, they don't try to finish it at once.

They practice a form of sustainable harvesting.They bore into the tuber and eat little out of the softer interior flesh. They deliberately leave the thin outer epidermis (skin) mostly intact. This keeps the plant alive and healthy, allowing it to continue growing or regenerate new tissue. They'll dig around their tunnels to look for other roots and do this. In a few days, they'll go back to the big tuber, which would have regenerated to eat a little again. They're smart not to overwork the tuber or kill it. They farm and bill with sense.

I heard this statement from someone and it stuck with me.

When people say “work like the Chinese in business”, they are usually not talking about nationality, they mean a style of execution that has made many Chinese small business , big businesses and companies scale extremely fast.

It’s a shorthand for a business culture built around speed, discipline, volume, and long-term dominance.

1. Relentless execution speed

Chinese businesses move very fast.
-They launch quickly
-Test many versions
-Kill what fails
-Double down on what works

2. High-volume iteration, I so like this one

Instead of one “perfect” product, they release many variations:
-10 ads instead of 1
- 5 product versions instead of 1
- 20 suppliers instead of 2
- 10 TikTok pages
- daily live stream with over 10 phones in the warehouse

They let the market choose.

3. Extreme cost efficiency

They obsess over:
-Low production cost
-Thin margins
-High turnover
- Massive scale

Profit comes from volume + efficiency, not high pricing.

4. Copy fast, then improve

They don’t waste time “inventing” if something already works.

They:
-Study winning models
-Replicate quickly
-Improve price, speed, distribution, or UX

This is why platforms like Shein, Temu, TikTok Shop, Alibaba grew so fast.

5. Long-term dominance mindset

They think in years, not months.

I laughed.

I asked why being late is such a serious offense in Japan.

“We don’t fire the late ones. We fire the ones who arrive exactly at the start.”

In my culture, arriving right on time means:
• responsible
• disciplined
• professional
In his culture? It means passive.

He explained:
“If you arrive at 9:00 sharp, you’ve waited until the last possible second.”
That tells us something important.
It tells us you didn’t plan for:
• traffic
• delays
• uncertainty
• responsibility beyond yourself

And if you don’t plan for uncertainty… you can’t be trusted with systems.

He said something I’ll never forget:
“Only the weak arrive in the last minute.”
Not because they’re lazy—but because they think in limits, not margins.
Japanese companies don’t value accuracy.
They value anticipation.

A professional arrives early to:
• settle the mind
• read the room
• prepare mentally
• show readiness

Not to rush in out of breath.

That idea stayed with me.

And once I noticed it… I couldn’t unsee it.

The most successful people everywhere, no matter within which country:
• arrive early
• stay calm
• observe first
• speak last

They’re already present before others even enter.

They notice details others miss.

They create opportunity before others react.

That edge compounds.

Showing up early isn’t about time.
