Did a banking authority of a PSU bank or the RBI Ombudsman reject your complaint against illegal recovery agent harassment?
You can use the Right to Information (RTI) Act to force the regulator to expose how they processed your case and why it was dismissed.
Here is the exact step-by-step guide to filing an RTI after a complaint rejection:
📁 THE FILE RULES: If filing online, your main text query must be under 3,000 characters. Any supporting documents (like your rejection letter) must be uploaded as a clean PDF file under 1 MB.
1️⃣ IDENTIFY THE RIGHT AUTHORITY: You cannot file an RTI against private lenders. Instead, file it against the Public Authority that rejected your complaint—typically the "Reserve Bank of India" (if it went to the Ombudsman) or the specific Public Sector Bank involved.
2️⃣ DRAFT STRATEGIC QUESTIONS: Do not ask for opinions or judgments. Ask for strictly factual records. Request:
• The daily progress report and file notings on your specific complaint number.
• Names and designations of the officials who investigated the recovery agent violation.
• Copies of the bank's internal action-taken reports regarding the code breach.
• The official guidelines used to justify the rejection of your case.
3️⃣ LOG ON TO THE RTI PORTAL: Head to the official central portal at https://t.co/c2iq11jLQi. Click on "Submit Request", read the guidelines, and check the agreement box to proceed.
4️⃣ FILL OUT THE DETAILS: Select the ministry/department (e.g., Department of Financial Services or Reserve Bank of India) from the dropdown list. Input your personal details, email, and phone number accurately.
5️⃣ PASTE YOUR TEXT & UPLOAD: Paste your precise, numbered questions into the text box. Upload your original complaint and the rejection letter in a single PDF file (under 1MB) as supporting documentation.
6️⃣ PAY THE FEE: Pay the nominal filing fee of ₹10 using net banking, UPI, or a credit/debit card. (Note: The fee is completely WAIVED/₹0 if you hold a valid Below Poverty Line / BPL card and upload proof).
Once you hit submit, a unique RTI Request Registration Number will be generated. By law, the Public Information Officer (PIO) must provide a formal response within 30 days. If they fail to respond or provide evasive answers, you have the legal right to file a First Appeal within 45 days.
💡 CRITICAL NOTE: An RTI is a tool to gather hidden information and internal file notes, not a court to penalize the bank. Use the information you uncover through this RTI as bulletproof evidence to appeal your case to the Consumer Court (e-Jagriti) or higher banking tribunals!
