Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologised for the proliferation of child sexual abuse material, deepfake content and errors in the company's handling of its platforms, according to NDTV sources.

MeitY officials said Meta does not qualify as an "intermediary" under the IT Act as it determines who receives content, making it ineligible for safe harbour protections.

Meta also admitted that significant amounts of money were paid to boost "certain types of content."
